How easy/hard to reach rate of $1k/month, starting from scratch?...

Goal: The rate of $1k/month.

What "plan" would you recommend?

How long would it realistically take (starting from scratch) to reach that goal?

I can concentrate on ONE thing/project/method -- but it can't take up too much time per day, either.

Thanks.

That's a really, really broad question. I ran a WSO here for fun (making eCovers for $10 a piece, just because I like to do it) and received orders for nearly 100 of them. So that' $1,000 right there.

Depends what you mean by "scratch." You could do this in a day PPCing affiliate products if you invested enough.

  • That really can't be answered, no two people will ever get the same results and no single person would get the same result twice. It also depends what you do and how much time you have. There are some affiliate marketers who could start making that kind of money within their first month...

I use a blog and that took six months before I was making a 4-figure income. If I had to start again I could probably do it more quickly as I wasted a lot of time but it's not a particularly method. However, once a blog gets going it becomes a lot easier to maintain with a lot less time investment.

I agree - it will be different for everyone.

However, asking the question makes it easy to see how many ways are available.

For me, writing and blogging have been very good to me.

Giving a roadmap is very difficult without a starting point.

Maybe some more info from the OP would be helpful.

You're probably right, but every roadmap has a starting point as well as a destination. Hence the questions about what is meant by "scratch."

        Here's a simple roadmap.

        1) Work out what your interests are. What do you have a passion for? Make a list of these.

        2) Prioritise your list. From the top down, put in order of decreasing interest.

        3) Now you have your list, go to Clickbank and find three products relating to each interest.

        4) Buy a domain and get some web-hosting related to your top interest.

        5) Buy the clickbank products related to your top interest. Write reviews for each of them listing good and bad points, and include a feature list. Put the reviews on your self-hosted Wordpress blog like this:

        5a) One post per review.
5b) Put up several posts comparing products against each other.
5c) Put up a page with a feature comparison matrix.
        5d) Pick the best product.

        6) Open an eZineArticles account and write ten articles 3 for each of the runner up products, and 4 for the best product -- do your keyword research first -- and submit them to EZA

        7) While waiting for EZA to approve your articlesyou can continue to write articles, or you can set up Squidoo lenses, Hubpages, Knols and the like pointing back to your reviews.

        8) On the eighth day, rest. Once the traffic starts rolling in, start analysing your stats, hops, and sales. What product is selling the best? Is it your top recommendation? Do you need to revise your reviews at all?

You can do this for any product, I suggested something you are passionate about simply because it will be easier to write the reviews and articles -- you'll likely know what you are talking about.

Also pick CB products that have a better than $30 commission and a decent (>100) gravity if possible.

Write articles for each product reviewed, but for your top product write two articles for each runner up.

        Hope this helps.

Are you starting from scratch with no money and no skills? This will take a lot longer than someone with money and skills obviously.

    Here's another roadmap:

    1. List your IM-related skills.
    2. Pick one of them.
    3. Offer that as a service to other IMers.
    4. Build your customer base and brand (your name) by giving over-the-top expertise and service.
    5. Use the knowledge you gain while doing the above to create a related blog and fill it with content.
    6. Create a short report on the subject and offer it as a freebie to your visitors to get them on a mailing list.
    7. Create a start-to-finish product related to this area of knowledge. Sell it to your visitors and your list.
    • Bonus item: Sell it using Rapid Action Profits or Butterfly Marketing to build a separate list of buyers - each of whom can become affiliates.

You'd likely be able to reach your goal in the middle of the fourth step.

So the real question is, how willing are you to do the work to reach your goal?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[338306].message }}
    • It can be done and as most others have said, "It depends what from scratch means."

One of the quickest ways I have found is to write a low priced report with very timely information specific to your market.

      Here's a very simple strategy

      Host a teleseminar
Market the heck out of it
      Record the call
      Have the recording transcribed
Turn the transcript into a report
      Sell for $5 - $9
      Make it an affiliate product

Something like this could feasibly make $1,000 in a month.

Set it up for affiliates to sell. Granted, some IM won't touch a low priced report, while others would be happy to make a few dollars.

To set yourself up for longterm success, focus on building a responsive list and building a relationship with your list.

Once your market knows you provide high quality products they are more likely to buy higher ticket items.

I'm very willing to put the work into it -- but the work has to be in proportion to the reward. It has to be equal to the amount of work one would expect to put in for a 12k/year job -- and no more.

I realize IMing has other benefits besides just money - on the other hand, I don't want to work the same amount as for a 75k job... and end up with (only) 12k.

How do you find a buyer for such a blog? I'm new to the site-flipping business and would like to know who typically buys and pays top (or what makes the flip profitable) dollar. Thank you.

To OP and others warriors who are helping: I hope you don't mind me asking question little bit off the original post

I believe at the end of the day it comes
down to your personal skills and attributes
as well as a little bit of luck on top.

Before you get into the specifics, you will need to
assess yourself based on the following criteria:

    - how determined are you?
    - how fast do you learn?
    - are you prepared to plan this out?
    - are you serious about taking action?
    - how much time do you have?
    - what would happen if you don't achieve it?

If you've got a little bit of experience and knowledge,
you can always start off by looking at site flipping,
affiliate marketing. Or you can create a product and
    sell it in a WSO.

But if you're really starting from scratch, that is you
don't know anything about this at all, there will be
a slight learning curve involved as with any other trade
    you want to get into.

It could be worth you taking a look at Jeremy Kelsalls 30 day instruction WSO. He basically shows you how to start earning an income from scratch. How to find a product, keyword research, promotion etc. Could be what your looking for.

If that's true, then that's not a good commentary on IMing, imo. To reach the rate of 12k/year, it takes "a lot of time?"

I don't know about you, but that makes me go "Hmmm?"

      Anyone else care to comment?

      Has that been your experience?

Generally, the time it will take you to make $1K a month is proportional to the amount of effort you put into it.

It's entirely possible to make more than $1000 in your first month if you just take the appropriate action. It's very simple.
        1. Choose a plan for making money (Bum Marketing, PPC, whatever)
        2. Set a goal for what you want to acheive.
        3. Do whatever you need to do to acheive the goal.
        That's it.

There are other factors that come into play. Did you choose the right product or niche? Are you approaching the market in the right way? Is your content working? But those are things you can work out and correct while you are taking action.

    No Offence...

But there are too many of these posts. Go to the main page of the forum and look down the topic list.

There are probably 10 methods for making 1K per month. Pick one of them, anyone of them and just work your butt off.

The answer to your question is already there, you're just ignoring it

It took me about 6 months to get to $1,000 a month. I have some blogs that create income, and several mini-sites selling e-products. The six months was wrapped up in promotion, promotion, promotion.

There are many ways, some easier than others. If I can find the time, I might run a WSO later on outlining the two methods I used to keep myself fed and clothed while i built my SEO career.

If you've got a talent, skill, or service that people want online, by all means, captialize on that.

I've missed out for over a year with my 3-D animation stuff, and I'm getting into it now. I need to set up a sales page and get things going.

But if you have a service thats in-demand, like mine persay, it would not be hard to market it and get 1k a month or more. I'm making about half that off of one client.

    Sell services!
