Your Hobbies Or Pastimes

Which of your hobbies/pastimes would you want to bring in money? And it doesn't have to be something IM related. But something you really, truly love to do, but you don't currently do it for cash.

I myself would love to make and paint miniatures for a living. I also love doing 3-D animation, which is why I've offered some project openings to those who want it.

One of my favorite pastimes is already making me money, as I've already gotten a few clients.

How about you? Do you make money with something you love? Or would you like to?

I'd love to know.

-Sean

I played golf for a living for about 5 years. I have to admit though it was nice when I finally put the clubs down. Although I could write a pretty good how to manual on the game and probably make some money.

My boyfriend is a passionate guitar player..specifically metal..who not only has been playing for over years and gets better everyday but has also learnt a lot about production on his own..to the point that people are asking him to do their mixing for them (he is doing some free in the new year for some band!).

In fact its his life really (you can hear one of his music projects in my sig (its lovely metal . I see big things for him in 2009. He or rather we make some money from this passion but hope to make more in the new year. I would love for him to make a full time income from it and really see it happening in the new year - whether that be through his website or through actually playing or producing.

I am very passionate about many different things...especially about undercovering the truth to people. I would love to turn my enthusiasm for natural hygiene, diet and nutrition into something profitable as this is one of my main interests at the moment. Saying that though I am in the process of finishing off a diet program which I have spent a considerable amount of time on...I would like to make lots of money of this..but to be honest I decided to write it because I was sick of seeing so much rubbish out there...I have purchased some books out of curiosity and couldnt believe unhealthy they are.

The thing about me is though I am have too many interests. I am currently reading 6/7 books at the moment...just cant seem to only read one!

Yea I played a few golden bear events, a bunch of moonlight tour events and a bunch of other smaller tour events. That is one sport where you really have to have someone footing the bill for you to make it. The golden bear events were $500.00 each to enter and you had better shoot 6 under for the first two days to make the cut.

Wow, I'm Not that good. I can't get much done after my initial drive.

And that is where sponsors come in, to pick up that $500 entrance fee, right?

Still sounds like fun to me.

Yea that's where the sponsers really help out. I was bartenting at night and practiceing and playing during the day. I had a sponser for a couple months but his shirt business went under. 99% of the guys on tour had people footing the bill for them since day one. They spend most of their highschool years going from major junior event to another. It gets really expensive. If you put up $500.00 for an entry fee and don't make the cut your actually out about $700.00 because of a place to stay and food. Not to mention you still have to pay rent where you normally live. It's rough out there, but man if you make it those guys really do live like kings.

No problem! I love when ideas click.

My 3-D idea came to me last night in a flash. I looked at my computer, then the boxes my programs came in, and slapped myself in the forehead for not seeing it sooner.

It's all good though, hindsight is 20/20!

Well, at least you know how to snowboard my friend! I've always wanted to do that or surf, but I've never lived anywhere where I could do either!

But since I live in Colorado now, I'll prolly try to find a good place to go and snowboard if given the chance.

I collect trade and sell gemstones.

I have made about $8,000 dollars with this hobby, and I have about $30,000 dollars worth of diamonds and gemstones.

It is a very fun hobby, and when combined with internet marketing, it can be very profitable.

Genealogy. It's my BIG passion, and I spend ALL my free time doing it. I could definitely do it for other people for money, and I'd really enjoy doing it. It's fun to trace a family tree through the generations, whether it's my family or someone else's. I'm extremely experienced and know all kinds of ways to track down elusive ancestors...ways that most beginniners have never heard about. Heck, I'm currently putting together a portfolio to get professional certification, since I think it would be awesome to have my efforts recognized that way by THE authoritative group in the field (the Board of Certification of Genealogists).

You'd be surprised how many historically known ancestors you start to find when you go back far enough (even finding an ancestor who was mentioned in a footnote in some history book is pretty exciting). I, for example, am directly descended from someone who was executed for witchcraft during the Salem witch hysteria in the 17th century. No joke. It's always fascinating to find out things like that about your family background, which is one of the many reasons why I LOVE genealogy!

One of my hobbies was interior decorating. When my folks lived in Washington state, we were fortunate enough to be located in a great neighborhood. I would go house to house helping my neighbors decorate their homes. I haven't had the luxury or time to decorate in years. Last week, when I decorated my parent's house for Christmas, it brought back fond memories.

Why not eventually try to make time, once a month, to go and design a home? I always find ways to make time for what I love, even if I don't feel like doing it at the time. Sometimes forced playtime is good playtime.

I have a quite a few hobbies/passions. Some have made me money, some have cost me.

I used to play in bands for years, and that one definitely cost me a lot more than I made. lol

I collect a few things (music related, toys, etc.). I have over 500 M&Ms items that used to brighten up my office, but now they have been moved to my daughter's playroom.

Poker could turn into a serious passion, but I force myself to not get too serious right now, because it takes too much of my time, and unfortunately, it usually costs me more than it brings in.

I've made quite a bit of money from design, and technically, it's more of a hobby for me than a "job". I do most my own designs, and occasionally do stuff for friends/associates when asked at the right time.

An old hobby of mine will hopefully be revisited in 2009, and that's working out! lol. I've let that slip out of my life, and need to get that energy back. Redbull and coffee is not a good replacement for exercise people!

    Cheers!

Yeah, you gotta prioritize to succeed at business. I know a lot
of artists and creative people who don't devote enough energy to
the money-getting part of things. People don't need to buy art
and in the end if you want to sell the fruits of your creativity you
have to face-up to facts: to the average person owning a new
big-screen TV is a higher priority than supporting the arts.

So if you want to get the money you learn to sell the things the
people put higher-up on their lists of priorities.

    Hi Sean,

Graphics Art was my passion but slowly it turned into a full blown business for me. Now I have a few designers working for me full time and have many new project coming in 2009.

I have a few other hobbies of mine like Aquariums & Fish, Coin collection, but haven't really thought about them from business point. May be I should.

I play the bagpipes - badly!

I also love photography, running and I've trained and competed successfully in dog obedience and agility. They can all be monetised I think, apart from the bagpipes.
