Selling Website Advertising Space - Advice Please?

Dear Warriors,

I have recieved the following e-mail regarding advertising space on one of my sites, but this is completely new teritory for me:-

"Hello,

I came across your website google-slapper.org, and thought it would be a great place to advertise for a client of mine, Amadesa (www.amadesa.com). I'm interested in a text link ad. How much would that cost per month?"

My site is quite basic, but is ranking at 3 on Google for the keyword phrase "internet marketing explained"

Would someone advise me please exactly what is meant by a text link ad, and what I could reasonably charge for this.

It may turn out to be a scam of some kind, but I would really value your opinion.

Many thanks and best regards,

Jon

Funny, I had the same thing a couple weeks back.

i asked them what they could offer. They said $70 one-time.

I am thinking they would probably go higher. But anyhow, its definitely a way to monetize.

Ask them how much they are willing to pay. You never know. If they offer monthly, then set them up with a paypal subscription.

    Hope this helps.

Definitely ask them for their offer first, one time I was very surprised by a persons offer. If you feel their offer is too low push them for a better offer(I once pushed a person to double their offer) but make a good defense on how you justify the extra expense to them. All else fails if they never reply (it happens these deals come and go, best to catch it on their impulse) then another person will come along, don't feel compelled to take every single offer because you might think it is the only one, patience is definitely a virtue on your side when it comes to selling links on your site

Well, you have to be smart here, they asked you your price so now what you've gotta do is set a price on yourself. Decide how valuable you want to appear and go with it. If you start high the worst they'll say is that's too high. But if you start low, they aren't exactly going to ask for you to go higher so you can make more money....

A text link ad is a hyperlinked text that leads back to their website.

One more note of advice, if you get another email asking to advertise on your website I'd recommend you doing some offline marketing to increase monetization and get your name out there, start making the big bucks.

Hi jonjune, A text link ad is just a basic text ad - much like adsense really - a headline, some subtext and a url (sometimes they just integrate the url into copy using anchor text).

I agree with the others here, just ask what they are willing to offer and ask about any specific placement they might have in mind.

Overall, it sounds like a few handy dollars in your pocket!

Thank you to you all for your valuable input.

I have asked him to make me an offer, and if we can agree a monthly fee, I will look to arrange a Pay Pal Subscription as suggested by Jody.

Many thanks as always for your kind advice and expertise.

      Kind regards,

      Jon

A text link ad is a hyperlinked text that leads back to their website. Generally the hyperlink is targeting a specific key word they are trying to rank for.

I would recommend setting a reasonable price and charging a monthly subscription fee.
