Article Power - When Does it Peak, When Does it Fade?

From my perspective, an article gets its best rankings right away, and slowly fades.

BUt from what I've seen, after a bit of research, articles of mine from many months ago are the ones that are ranking high.

Does anyone know when an article reaches its peak, on average?

It depends a lot on what websites you are using to publish your articles, Oilman. Blogs, Article Directories, Authority Sites, Niche Sites, Squidoo, etc...

Where do you submit your articles?

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

I havent been doing this for all that long but I've got over 150 articles out there and some rank really well and others you cannot even find. I think the ones that rank high and stick, as long as you build a few links to them every now and then will continue to rank high.

Also - what are the easiest links to get pointing at an article? Social bookmarkings?

There was a great post somewhere on the forum where somebody talked about taking the same article and resubmitting to other directories. The only difference in the articles was in the resource box. They kept one link pointing to their landing page and one pointing to an article they wanted to build back links to.

You can also take your rss feed from your EZA author page and submit it to rss directories. You can also add that feed to any of your squidoo, hub, or blogger pages all building links to your article.

You can take one article spin it a little and build a blog with it and at the end put a link pointing to another article you want back links to.

Throw the link around yahoo answers as well to get more back links to the article.
      Hope that helps a little.

Well, article directories differ. For instance, EZA is pretty much like you described in the OP, from what I have experienced. (Although rarely an article will remain for quite a while)

But my article directory gives you pretty much zero traffic for the first month...then it starts to slowly build and maintain itself.

Article backlinks? Well, there's a lot to article backlinking. It's not cut and dry if you want it to work. My December newsletter was all about it and it took up 13 frickin pages.

Let me just say that it's probably a good idea to do it and...social bookmarkings are pretty lame for article backlinking.

All this is from my own personal experience and observation.
