How are you doing competitor analysis?

Just wondering. Site building, keyword research, etc are things I have been trying to learn for a few months now and thought I'd ask on the best methods of doing competitor analysis.

There are a few micro niches I'd like to get into but not sure how hard it would be to get onto google page 1.

    Besides looking at their on page SEO, you need to find the backlinks they're using. I think Yahoo Explorer can do the job, and there may be other tools. It's a long slog to get to google page 1 in highly competitive markets, but there are also many other marketing techniques other than ranking in SERPS to beat up the competition.

    The easiest way is to get a free trial of Market Samurai and play with the Competition tab. That takes about 30 seconds to see if a keyword or keywords are highly competitive.

    Learning curve isnt bad. I do not use it for keyword research. I use it for the competition module. For the competition module, you just click on it and it gives you the info that you need.
