I'm Looking for Questions About Social Bookmarking and RSS...Please Ask!

I'm working on a product based on bookmarking your sites at places like Digg, Propeller, Delicious, Stumbleupon, etc. and also submitting your RSS feeds to multiple sites.

I've had excellent results and so.so results after spending a few weeks researching this and would like to know what your questions are about it.

This is an Awesome way to build backlinks quickly, but it has it's advantages and disadvantages.

Please respond, you might even get the finished product for free!

In your searches how long does it take for you rss feed to disapear to where you need to submit it again? I know some stick but not all of them.

Also besides the normal ways to get around book marking articles (make hubs, squidoo, etc) what were the sites you had the most success with bookmarking articles.

One more. What were your findings as to what the effect was on if you mass submitted to say 50 one day and then another fifty 3 or 4 days later, or if you just did say 3 sites each day.

    Thanks
    Bryan

What is social bookmarking, RSS, Digg etc?

I have an old site (pre web 2.0), how do I create RSS for it?

Will users be able to see images in their RSS feeds?

What are various important social bookmarking websites?

Should I use a software to submit my links to these sites?

Do I need separate user ids for all these sites?

Can my link be banned from these sites?

Can just a link be submitted to social book marking? Do I need to create a separate web page for each of these sites?

I may think of more, let see if the ones I have listed make any sense for your product.

    Steve,

Are social bookmark sites 'valuable' in terms of backlinks & SEO?

Is there a definitive Web 2.0 linking strategy to follow?

Sounds like an A1 course, Steve.

    Best wishes,
    Steve

    WoW,

I overwhelmed with all the questions so fast, first post I've ever had with that much response!

I just came in from an evening with some friends and have a little buzz so bare with me.

Let me preface my response with this statement...Some sites are WAY better than others for links, and others will get you to the top of google in minutes if not hours...

My research isn't complete, that's why I asking for questions...

I'll respond shortly (probably tomorrow my time) with some more concrete info.

    Thanks,
    Stephen

I've submitted my sites/blogs and selected others to over 200 so called "social bookmark" sites and over 100 recommended RSS sites. My results were surprising to say the least.

This is a strategy that should be in everyone's toolbox for promotion, but understanding it is half the battle.

Rather than take a shotgun approach, there are sites to target initially for their short term benefits (links, traffic, SEO) and then there are the long term benefits.

If not for traffic and SEO purposes, what are the long term benefits?

    Steve,

I think the biggest question I have is how soon can you do this? With a brand new site can you blast it out to all of these social bookmark sites and rss feeds without worrying about your site getting sandboxed?

I think there is a fine line concerning how fast is too fast.

Subtle things like you blasting the 2.0 sites with a software vs. doing it naturally and others contributing.

I think populating the RSS readers should be done immediately and with all possible speed! People actually look for opportunities to subscribe to feeds that interest them, but it is still a new technology. The more the merrier and the faster the better.

Social Bookmarking is a different animal, and as marketers we misunderstand and misuse it sometimes...but even if you f**k up, bookmarks in the right place can get you excellent SEO and long lasting traffic.

    Hope that helped...

I need some serious "rss for idiots" kinda help - I just dont understand what i do with it at all.
I have a blog or 2 and I know I should be doing this stuff, but I just can't get my head around it - is there an "rss for idiots" type of report somewhere, somethig without the fluff and crap that will explain it for me and tell me exactly what to do - I dont even know how to get the rss feed for my own site - which is prob just as well cause I wouldnt know what to do with it once i do!!

Someone needs to tell me how to go back and quote the various questions, I'm a noob about that.

To respond to the last question, "Do they work?" I've submitted sites to Digg and a few others that instantly appeared in the search and the digg rated quite well and drug my new site along with it, so YES, it works.

just hit the quote button on the right hand side below the question you want to quote.

But I'd still like to know what the long term advantages are if they are not for traffic or seo purposes.

    Newbie,

Like I said, I've got a little buzz so I'll expand on this tomorrow, but there are a couple of warriors that market products about this and offer some good free instruction to promote their products.

I think I have the PLR rights but I'll check and if not I'll direct you to their stuff so you can judge for yourself (no affiliate link 'sigh')

Just realize that this is a wonderful tool, not the be all and do all of promotion and we'll take it from there.

    Thanks for all the questions...

I've been busy working on my research today, but for those that replied to my post last night I thought I'd offer some of my thoughts and research to maybe answer some of your questions and hopefully generate a lot more.

The post is pretty long so I won't post it here but you can read it at my experimental blog at Nimble .

This is an unedited stream of thought I put together before I went to bed last night, so don't judge my organization and spelling. I could spend all day polishing it up or doing research, I chose research.

Please comment and tear it apart if you wish.

I'll follow up with some info on RSS, but that's pretty cut and dried...just get your feeds out there on the best feed sites ASAP!

Hi Steve, if you still open to this thread please allow me to ask a question that I've been wondering for quite some time.

We know that on social bookmarking sites we only get valuable backlinks from sites that not apply nofollow or "out" scripts and also sites that don't use javascript or even flash to show our links.

Yet I need to know if a site require login for us to see some links, will search engines be able to pick up the links?

I hope the questions are still in.

Anyway, we all know that it's hard to make money from any social bookmarking site. But then, it's nice to know what kind of posts are making good for each site. Say for Digg and SU. What types of users each social site have?

    Thanks!
