If you could only choose ONE-Hubpages or Squidoo

For hubpages I like the fact you can add a module with one click of a button. With squidoo you have to go to another page and find the specific modules you are looking for. With hubpages it's all on one page.

That being said, I still pick squidoo. I prefer it and if I could only choose 1 it would have to be squidoo.

  • I use squidoo and have not used hubpage yet. I am yet to see the advantage of squidoo to my website. I started using squidoo to improve the profile of my website nd business. Howeever as my squidoo page does not rank high I do not get much benefits form it as of yet. I do not see any justification in spending too muchh time to advrrtise or optimise my Squidoo pages as I would raher spend this time to market my website directly.

    Hello Valerie,

I have not used Hubpages so I cannot speak to the good or the bad using that site. Squidoo I have used and find it to be friendly enough.

With just one promotion on Squidoo I have sold $1723.18 worth of product recently. And it continues quite nicely, despite having not updated the Lense in several weeks, since a few main keywords rank the Lense in the top 10 at Google.

For me Squidoo is truly a 'set it and forget it' marketing approach. This I like

They have officially gotten to the point where if you even subconsciously think about monetizing a hub - in any way - that they will shut you down.

Well, Ive noticed that if someone wants me to put my content on their site that they better allow me to make some money off of it too lol

Hubpages is a thing of the past for me now

With Squidoo you can pretty much do what you want within reason...that and the fact that they send me about 30.00 a month makes them the clear cut undefeated champion of the world.

Overly promotional? Can't you just label the hubpage as commercial to begin with?

But yeah... that is why squidoo is better. They expect you to monetize the lenses.

Oddly enough I only have 1 hubpage and it is way out of date and it still gets clicks on adsense. Maybe that is the idea... make sites, hubs, lenses that contain completely out of date or useless information so visitors will click on the ads instead of read your article.

But I don't like the Squidoo layout. Hubpages has 'em beat there.

I spent three days at hubpages, I found this made it impossible to put up content there.

Rule #1: They downgrade you if all or most of your lenses have ONE (or more link) back to sites you regularly refer to. Eg, you can write a series of incredibly useful illustrated 1000 word lenses, but if all ten link back to your site, you get a lower score. Still, they profit wonderfully off those.

Rule #2: Your lens gets flagged if you have more than two links to ANY site on the net, it could be ESPN. This makes it VERY hard to write even a **completely altruistic lens** in order to improve your author score. I wrote one about special photography techniques which had two links to the leading photog in this area. The RSS feed picked up one more, transiently, because she was an active publisher. The lens got pulled. That was it for me.

The Lense I'm referring to simply points to a site providing the product
written and praised about at the Lense. Really just a simple review and
information type of thing, nothing more.

I was getting better performance from HubPages, but the annoyance factor is just too high to justify the nominal difference.

Definately Squidoo; the reason is obvious in that you can freely advertise links to your sites and offers, whereas Hubpages can be quite "anal" in their approach to even slightly advertising on hubs. Harsh but true!

Can't vouch for hubpages though squidoo has been earning me a good $150 - $200 per month with one lens.

I joined HubPages in 2007 after seeing it in a ProBlogger, and back then they said it was for an entertainment articles. I got what I thought was accepted to what I thought was a job to what I thought was about entertainment articles.

And then I figured out that people can just sign up, and post topics about anything. They set up all their streams of income accounts such as AdSense.

But I still stuck with entertainment articles. I posted 3 months in 2007 and 3 months in 2008. It was like 26 articles with a few unpublished, and when I returned I finished and published the rest of them and ended up with about 75 articles. I don't know the exact amount. I won't give HubPages a 3rd try. They redid their guidelines (again) and this time my articles aren't good enough. They didn't get enough traffic despite getting a comment from a producer of "Cecille" segments seen on Sesame Street. I only go to HubPages to look at any comments.

I was originally planning on using both sites at the same time. About a month and a half later I am only writing for Squidoo. I am just beginning on that website but I know what I am going to write about... everything. And if I have any questions, I will just ask them. My lenses will be great ones, but some of them are going to be better than others. Probably because what I write about is boring.

I pick Squidoo. Squidoo doesn't pay with AdSense, but if you like AdSense, there are other sites that use AdSense other than HubPages.

I like Squidoo better because HubPages flags my hubs for no reason.

I now have to get "administrator approval" before a Hub is published...

    That in itself...

    sucks.

    My choice: Squidoo by far...

    Hope this helps...

Maybe Bevvers, but Squidoo and Hubpages are free and easy and at least Squidoo can rank well with Google so they can be good.

JJP for squidoo you can arrange the modules however you like. So I'm not sure what you mean.

But squidoo is a lot more flexible while hubpages won't let you publish your hub if you have more than 2 links which makes no sense to me. They are so strict.

I was talking about other social marketing sites, where you can use links to products, where Google loves them, and you can be indexed in a couple of hours, and can get 1st page of Google the same day and it will stick for at least a few months by doing nothing more than say 10 mins work.

I really, really dislike hubpages. I seriously feel they have a gulag atmosphere going over there. I don't think it's healthy. I said this elsewhere, it reminds of DMOZ. Remember when DMOZ opened back up and started that forum where we peons could beg to be included? Remember how the editors talked down to everyone who inquired about their site status, even while (allegedly) taking cash donations to get a site through, in some instances? Hubpages reminds me of that. The level of automated negativity even when you're simply building your lens, before you even publish it, is quite amazing. Messages about how your lens is in danger of being deleted because it doesn't have enough tags and stuff -- before you even publish it.

BTW, if you haven't tried squidoo in the last day or two, they are really upping their game in terms of making module-building easier. That makes me really happy and I'm glad they're committing to their, erm, lens masters like that. Hubpages has been much better in terms of the nuts & bolts of building a lens; it looks like Squidoo is working to catch up.

BTW, I couldn't stand hubpages, so I unfortunately can't compare them, but squidoo sends very profitable traffic. They are one of my best referrals. I really should spend much more time there.

I use hubs, and Knols and I social network with MySpace etc etc.

    Hey Valerie!

You can create a list of your favorite modules so that they're on the page when you build a lens in that account. Here's how you do it:

Go into edit mode on a lens and click Browse All Modules.

Click the modules you like to use and on the right side, click the +Faves button.

Now once you do that, on the right it'll say New Faves to Add - with a list of the modules under it. Make sure each box IS checked and then click Update Faves.

From that point on, those modules will be listed on your lens module options whenever you build a new lens so all you have to do is click the plus sign

I prefer Squidoo for promoting affiliate products, since as others have said, they're more marketer-friendly. They're also better for building backlinks, since there's no limit on the number of times you can link to one domain across your lenses.

Having said that, I find that my hubs get indexed much more quickly than my lenses (even after pinging, bookmarking etc), and they also tend to rank better. Plus I make a lot more on Hubpages from Adsense, Amazon & eBay.

So they both have their pros and cons. Squidoo is more user-friendly, but overall I prefer Hubpages, since they make more money for me, even if their rules are beyond annoying.
