Evergreen Membership Sites - What's a good signup / conversion rate?

Hi guys,

I went live a few weeks ago with my first membership site in a hobby niche and am curious - what's a good signup or conversion rate for turning visitors into paying customers?

I can provide a bit more detail as that's a pretty broad question... I have visitors sign up for a free ebook and send them a link to a video preview of the members area, and follow-up with them several more times with different sales videos.

Right now it seems I'm only converting 5% of people that join my email list, which seems low to me. Is it?

Looking for any advice as I'm trying to tweak my sales funnel. I've gone through Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula and am trying to gauge what works best, letting visitors sign-up immediately, or taking them through a multiple-day launch sequence before allowing them to purchase.

Thanks for the help!

You might consider an email series i.e. "10 steps to _______" (depending on your niche). Then each day send a lesson providing value. Reciprocation is the goal here. You're providing value for nothing in return. Readers will thank you by purchasing because you've proven yourself to them.

5% is still a pretty descent number considering we know nothing about your list. 5% of 100 people is only 5 people x your membership, not so sweet, however 5% of 10000 person list is 500, might make the difference. its all about value and scaling. Offer quality content and quality freebies and people will join in time.
