Silly question but ... do you leave comments on old blogs?

Even old blogs can get traffic. I have a couple of old blogs that I haven't touched in 2+ years, but they have a lot of Google love and they get search engine traffic.

I wouldn't comment on only old blogs, but one or two wouldn't hurt.

Actually if that blog is autoapproved blog then you can leave comment and get a backlink that is indexed faster than others.

You came to know whether that blog is autoapproved or not only after posting your comment.So you need to spend time too..

The reality is that you can't reliably tell the answer to this question, in any individual case, and it's just a question of whether it's collectively a worthwhile activity, and even then you can't realistically prove whether you've got that right, anyway.

In my opinion, it's worth doing, and I do it.

If there is new content, but old comments, I would leave a comment. If everything is old, then I wouldn't. I might subscribe for updates to see if the person comes back to the blog, but that would be the most I'd do.

It depends on how active the blog looks and if you think your comment is likely to be approved or even seen, but in most cases it is worth it I think.

You need to see if they are still accepting comments or not. Most blogs make you wait for approval for comments. Dead blogs are less likely to have someone approving comments on them.

Think alexa is right, the hard part is finding blogs, especially if you don't use any software.

I do, so I have a list of 50k auto-approve blogs, and a list of blogs in my niche. Another good way of looking for relevant blogs is to use the CommentLuv site, using their search bar you can find other commentluv blogs.

Plenty in their system.

Tip: The main keyword doesn't have to be on the page to be relevant. If instead, the keyword is a more broad version or sub-niche of your keyword, and google displays that keyword when searching on the free google keyword tool, then that counts as relevant too.

For example:

You're looking for blogs to do with bass (the fish), and you come across a site that uses the keyword "fish" a lot but no mention of the word bass.

You then see other fish names used, and even examples of "how to cook fish", "catching fish more frequently" and "finding great spots for fishing. Those would all be relevant, regardless of whether the page contains your keyword or not.

2nd Tip: And it's so simple I don't see how so many people fail to do this: Read the content, and then reply accordingly as if you were someone genuinely interested and not looking for a backlink at-all.

Put yourself in the shoes of the writer, and the reader. What sort of comments would they like to see?

"Nice, great post, it has benefited me greatly"

or

"Good tips, though I don't fish, my cousin does hassle me all the time to go fishing. I've gone with him several times, and every single time he has either caught pathetically sized fish, or has had no luck at-all.

Maybe the next time I go with him I can show him up by putting some of those tips into action, eh bill? I'll let you know how it goes (should I decide to go with him)"

PS. Takes me all of 5-10 minutes to read the content, and appropriately reply with a relevant and useful comment.

You wouldn't have to reply like above, that one would be how I would reply, because I don't fish, but my cousin does on occasion ask, and I do on occasion go with him.

If instead you do fish, or feel the writer has missed something, you could mention it in your comment.

If the comments are a few years old then that generally means that people aren't visiting the blog or are no longer interested. However, your comment could spark interest in whatever the blog is about.

I'll leave comments on old blogs as long as other comments are recent. If there are no recent comments then there is a good chance the site has been abandoned and the author isn't approving any comments.
