Affiliate Program Choices...

11 replies
So say you've chosen your niche and now your surfing some affiliate programs to decide which one is best. Say you have your decision down between two affiliate programs for your niche and they both offer the same commission rates, etc. How do you determine which affiliate program to promote? Would it be wise to go off of SEO Quake stats and look at the affiliate sites rank, age, etc?

Thanks!

    Interesting question and one that should be asked more often. Assuming that you stand by the product 100% it might be a good idea to simply see which is the top seller, as you know well known and popular brands tend to sell more.

    However, I must also add that even thought popularity sells it really comes down to the effort put forth. As I stated previously I think if you stand by the product chances are you will be successful regardless of which you choose.

    Another way to choose is to simply try them and see which one you personally prefer. This will give you a better prowess on the pro's and con's of each product and allow you to exploit your discoveries in your marketing and promotional efforts. Believe it or not many people may be stuck between the two products themselves and your insider report just might be the deciding factor. Best of luck to you.

    I'll be honest: I'm more likely to do it the other way round ... I choose my niches partly according to what the products are what I think I can realistically sell.

    I err on the side of preferring:-

    (i) Whichever I think will make the best "first one", intending to add something else later anyway, after starting to build a list;

    (ii) Whichever I think will pay me without problems (I won't put myself in a position where I'm dependent for payment on an "unknown vendor", so that perhaps gives Clickbank-like networks the edge);

    (iii) Whichever comes with a sales page that I think is going to alienate the smallest proportion of people attracted by my articles onto my list (I judge this more or less according to the "Clickbank product selection criteria" I describe in this post (it nearly all applies to non-Clickbank products' sales pages, too);

    (iv) Whichever products I like best myself and am most pleased to have my name associated with (even if I'm using a niche pen-name for my promotions).

    I've never had any luck except with Amazon. In my little corner of the woods, I find that people are attracted to and trust the World of Bezos alone.

      I agree with what has been said here. I would suggest you try both of them (if you haven't already) and see which one you would be able to promote most naturally. Personal testimonies can really help.

      It usually leads to favoritism. The one she likes the best will get more of her attention while the other is ignored. It's a potential waste of time, money and effort.

      I agree with Alexa on all counts.

      I'm also curious... You say "Affiliate Program" and not "product" -

      I would start with choosing the product first, taking into consideration of course the affiliate program that allows you to earn money.

      Or go to the affiliate program and then focus on finding a product to promote.

      Either way, it's key that the product itself is great. If it isn't, move on to another one. The best affiliate program won't serve you too well if you get lots of refund requests.

      When a product you like is available through several affiliate programs, then you can figure out which one will work best for you,and what is more important to you:

      Reputation, speediness of pay (i.e., instant commission program), lifetime tracking, etc.

      Good luck!
