    Hi Debra,

I think this all depends on what you want to accomplish.

Wordpress is a great blog alternative because it is easy to learn, easy to manage, the plugin options are endless, and Google loves them!

That said, Wordpress has a few supposed shortcomings when it comes to creating such things as Sales Letters or one-page mini sites for example. Most of these shortcomings however do have work-arounds through plugins, which I myself use extensively.

I know that probably doesn't answer your question, but if you provided more information on what you specifically plan on targeting, it may be easier to provide suggestions.

I personally love Wordpress because there is very little it cannot do.

      Hi Debra,

If I were just starting out, I would definitely learn Wordpress over any other development tool out there.

Again, it is very user friendly with an abundant amount of plugins to allow you to accomplish, pretty much anything. On top of that, there are plentiful resources to tap into if/when you need them. Minimal programming (if any) is really needed. It helps to know HTML and PHP to make small adjustments (and understand what's going on) but certainly not required.

One thing I did not ask is you is the type of hosting you have, are you self hosted or do you use third-party?

Obviously there are many advantages to use your own hosting, if you can afford it. But if not, I agree with rohit.arora that using Blogger is a great alternative!

Create a blog AND several money making sites.

Start by creating a wordpress blog on your domain. See how I do it: Internet Marketing Mentor | Internet Business Coaching my blog is on a subdomain of my website.

It works very well for me since my site is on Google top 10 for the keyword 'affiliate marketing'

You have to realize that a blog is a type of website.

I think what you mean is blog vs. e-commerce site.

You can't really say for definite which is better, but
an e-commerce site is more sales oriented, whereas
    blog is more info based.

Both can generate you income. Choose according to your
    strategy.

Anyway you've posted in the wrong section of the forum.

The best advice I can give you is to learn Wordpress to make websites. You can make your wordpress blog do anything a static html site will do...and much easier and faster if you know how

I would seriously consider getting SEO Press Formula...I hated Wordpress as most guides only gave the basics on how to structure my site but never really gave me the details on how to launch a great looking site in step by step fashion

If you can learn your way around Wordpress, you will save yourself a TON of time getting bogged down in the technical stuff(ie having text run into the sidebar etc)

Hope this helps....but whatever you do, learn Wordpress

    Li Weng--Thank You for replying-----Debra

PS-- I almost forgot--- sorry for posting in the wrong section of the forum---I was not sure too--post here or in the Main Discussion forum--Maybe I can go back and edit my post and ad WP to Blog Site and then it will be ok in this section of the forum ????

I should probably add to my response above.

You can make Wordpress blogs look like static sites...so that they look less bloggy.

Typically, a static HTML site will convert better because of the layout...but if you set up your blog so that it looks like an HTML site, now the advantage goes to wordpress

It doesn't stop there...Your Wordpress blog has an RSS feed that can be submitted to the RSS aggregators to gain traffic and backlinks

You can add an RSS Feed to static html sites, but it is an extra step

Also, you can ping the search engines with wordpress which will alert the google spiders that you updated your site

And finally, Wordpress is SOOO much easier to add content to and use once you learn how

      Its not even close, really

      Oops...almost forgot...google absolutely loves blogs

If you are a begginer, I would not go near a static HTML site with a 10 foot pole...and even when you become more advanced, I see no reason to mess with them

I use HTML for affiliate landing pages, sales letter sites, squeeze pages and membership areas. They are quick to build and require no maintaining.

I use Wordpress for blogs and niche sites. They are more work but have more power in the plugins etc...

for me, blog is more on putting the facts into your personal thought. The content can be as simple as a few lines and it is in easy format writing.

For those beginners, my 2 cent opinion is you go for blogging.

Hey Mark--- I appreciate both of your replies ----your information is great and it look's like about 95% of the Warrior's agree with you so far---I am surprised that at the comment to learn only one WP --I figured I would have to learn both ----but did not know which one I should learn first?? You suggest purchasing SEO Press Formula----- Do they show you how to set up WP with step by step screen shots ????

Mark--Great Reviews---and I would appreciate a rely about the screen shots in SEO Press Formula-----Debra

I certainly find that I have more success quickly with a blog in regard to getting indexed that is. I used to believe that a static website was the better option but I wonder whether I will ever go down that route again. I just can't see any reason not to build my sites using wordpress.

I say both working together is the best fit.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[346102].message }}
  • You can do BOTH with WordPress. It is an excellent CMS which means that you can use it to set up a static website to begin with if you are uncomfortable with blogging and then you can always add a blog later if you wish.

A blog can be a good way to build trust and authenticity with your readers which may help sales but a potential downside is that if you give away too much for free your readers get used to that and resist pulling out their wallets so watch out for that :-)

Whatever you decide though, I highly recommend WordPress.

I think both because both can work very well together..if you did it like this:

Have your own product on website - salespage.

Have a blog..where people can see that you are knowledgeable and basically an expert in your niche/field. Then you can link to your website.

I think that is the best way to do it because people can get to know you and you have your OWN product.

I did once set up my own affiliate website which I put a lot of work into...but I enjoy doing my own product(s) and blogging a lot more than I did affiliate marketing.

Get both to work for you. The blog serving as your knowledge portal and your website serves as a salespage. They could be a beauty to behold if you have you ground work laid out in a fantastic format.
