Is science a good niche area ?

I'm considering putting a lot of effort into a science based website.

However, it seems that people don't really browse science websites and those who do browse don't really click on ads.

So is it worth investing my time

I don't think it is a good idea as you hardly convert it into money easily.....

You can sell books from Amazon on science topics. Also lab equipment sells very well. I don't get significant results from search engines particularly, but writing relevant articles drives highly targeted traffic. It can be extremely lucrative.

There are (at least) hundreds of good niches within "science".

Science itself isn't a niche, though - it's a market, and a huge one. Please excuse the observation (meant with no impoliteness at all!) that one of the problems with your site may turn out to rest on exactly this point: there's no real targeting. This may make it unattractive both to many readers and to potential advertisers.

People (like me) interested in telescopes will return obsessively to a "telescope site" every day to check whether there's new content, and we're really good, enthusiastic potential customers willing to spend a couple of thousand or so on something we fancy ... but not to a "general science" site which may once have had one article about telescopes.

What you're doing at the moment, and look like developing further, isn't actually "niche marketing" at all. I think that may be a big problem with this approach.

Once again, excellent advise. "Science" is not niche enough but there are few niches within science that have products costing more than $1000 on Amazon. I have a site that is just Amazon/eBay affiliate with product in Chemistry.

        Thanks

Agree with others, if you can provide great content in a science niche, you can get great traffic and make good money through ad placements and affiliate products. Look for the affiliate products in Amazon, CJ and other networks to see what kind of products you can promote..

    Good luck,

Well, what can you bring to innovate this niche? Are you a scientist? I wouldn't choose this niche, it seems extremely complicated!

You don't have to be a scientist to make huge profits in the hundreds of niches in this market. Science in general is a very popular topic for the masses; just take a look at the wide selection of books at Amazon or the magazines being published. If you have an interest and can write reasonably well, you really can make a very nice chunk of change in this market.

I am. And being one is not necessary. All of the marketing techniques are the same.

The only difference is, you may need to research a little more than usual before writing.
