The Value and Importance of Feedback!

While this mostly applies to new people in IM, it really applies to everyone.

In any online business, feedback can be critical for your success. This is true especially in areas where you will be selling services that are "not proven." Unlike established physical products, IM services or products are harder to sell without some feedback from others.

Why am I bringing this up?

Well, I am mentioning this to remind people who purchase products how important their role is in giving the seller that feedback. Look at WSO's, eBay, Fiverr, Amazon, etc. Even offline - local plumbers, landscapers, real estate agents, the tax guy, hairstylist, etc. What is a big factor in determining your decision?

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK.

I know big names add credibility. Apple at this point may not really need as much feedback for the iPeople to make a purchase. But, how did they get that credibility? You guessed it: customer feedback. (and great marketing.)

If two people are selling the same thing (no big or known names), and company A has 400 positive reviews and company B has zero, all things being equal, who would you buy from?

In the WF, this is especially true because people come here to find that honesty and unbiased review on a product or service.

So, reminding people about the importance of feedback is one reason for this post. Provide it to your customers/clients/seller.

I am also partially asking for advice on how to get that feedback. It is especially hard for someone who is just starting out. On Fiverr, when I don't get feedback, it makes it hard to compete. This is true in other areas as well. But, it can be frustrating.

Thanks!

I agree completely with this. Feedback is often overlooked but very important, coming from someone who sells on eBay a lot I can really understand the need to show a good track record with previous customers.

If you want to get people to be more responsive in regard to leaving feedback it's actually very easy, just ask them! It can be as simple as leaving a little note with the delivered product or service saying that if they are happy with what they've received you'd be really appreciative of some positive feedback.

Yeah, I have done this. Then after, a few days I send a nicely worded reminder. Some people just don't want to bother I guess.

I couldn't agree more. I think the issue for many re: providing feedback is that there are a lot of transient visitors, who are looking for quick answers. In other words, there is no long term relationship built.

When started our business a few years ago, we built our client base first with a few music celebrities, which added credibility to our services. Our clients have now been with us for several years.

We continually "touch" each client with news updates, emails, etc. And, they, in turn, are sending us new clients. Those long-term relationships we do get "thanks" from.

But, I think it's "tough" sell when you have a "one-off" relationship.

Relationships are definitely important! And so is credibility. Starting off though, it is that initial feedback to get customers to buy from you. Many orders on places like ebay, Fiverr, etc are one time orders and building up feedback there is so important!
