A HUGE THANKS,BUT????

First of all I Launched my first ever website,in Feb 2011 and if not for this forum I would not be on my way to success, I learned about adsense, (not sure if too many ad on my site) I have not paid anyone all my hard work and it seems to be paying off. BUT keep reading about links and directories to get a Ranking I have used some sites that say they can tell you your ranking but they all say mine is 0, is it time ? or am I not doing enough, I work at it every day, putting in at least 4-6 hours to increase my site's size, and all related to my sites name, I do not pay any seo's as I keep hearing about is this also something I need to do? Many thanks for all your help so far

    Maybe your site is really hard to rank for. Is it in a populated or very competitive niche?

    Not to sure I sit at about 206,000 when I put in my site name with spaces but when I put in Portugal I come nowhere in the first thousand and other sites have some name not even related to portugal, yet are in the top 100, so how does the ranking work

    Ah, I'm not an SEO expert but I've read up on it in the past. Website name hardly matters. I can have a website called uscheese.com and rank on the 1st page for the keyword "foreign cars". It's about backlinks and keywords. Do you have the keyword (portugal) on your website a couple times? Also you should have backlinks to your website. Such as articles about portugal with a link to your website hidden in the text or hyperlinked.

      Hi Thanks for the reply , yes have portugal in the keyword but someone posted on here , it is not good to put the same word twice, what is a backlink? I have about 8 keyword should I put more and if so how many can you have

    A backlink / backlinking is the key to getting ranked. I would suggest making another post in this section of the forum titled, what is a backlink or what is backlinking

    They can tell you much more then I can. I do know that it's the most important part of SEO though.
