I've used Textbroker too, it's nice to have as an option to earn a quick buck.

Demand Studios pays a pretty high flat rate per article, $15/400 words or so. You've got to submit a resume and writing sample. Be sure to tailor an author's resume for them, a solid sample, and you should be accepted within 1-2 days.

You can definitely offer your services through your own website and here on the Warrior Forum. Set up a pricing structure you're comfortable with, bulk packaging may work well for you.

You can also earn on your writing for yourself. Develop your own product, book and sell it through your own site or here on the WF. You can also write up article packages and sell the Private Label Rights so others can fix them to their liking then use them. You can also create your own blog on any topic you like and earn through affiliate marketing or selling ad space. These are more long term strategies but when seen through, are the most profitable.

Hi, there is a lot of changes in the freelance world due to Google's update and such. You can make money as a writer, but you have to market yourself. I have a website that I put up to market myself as a professional writer (freelancewritingprofessional.com). Also, start thinking of yourself as a professional writer. I will give you more info in a PM if you like. But start thinking about a website - the biggest deal is to market, network, network, and network. You may have to start off slowly to build up your portfolio, etc. Good luck!

Honestly I've never written a resume of any kind. How exactly do you tailor one towards writing?

I do have a website I'm working on with a friend, that one in my sig for work at home mothers. I will be writing for it along with two friends of mine who are mothers. We plan on doing product reviews later to make money from affiliate marketing.

And I would really appreciate that Julie. I'm finding I really enjoy writing. I would love to make a career out of it. It wasn't until recently I realized it was actually possible to make very much money from writing outside of novels.

Would you suggest having an online writing portfolio, a text one to email, or both? I've had people say that building one online is best, others say to include all your information in the body of an email, and others say to put together a packet of some kind in pdf form and attach it.

AmandaT, as you are from US, the best company or opportunity for you is to write for yahoo content network, they pay big and they have a lot of work for everyone on their network. With some trial and error you could be earning as average as $100 for one article of 2000 to 4000 words. It will take time for you to reach there but yahoo gives you all the time and help for it. Yahoo name is enough for the fact, but they provide bulk work for everyone on their network, you have the option to check other peoples work (people who are earning $100 per article) and learn and copy their methods. You can spend your whole life with them and make a very good earning to support your lifestyle.

But they pay for US residents only, other country residents can write for them but won't get paid (exceptions may be found).

Never heard of yahoo content network...

I also agree with creating a resume and applying to Demand Studios. If you have been with Textbroker for at least a few months, you should have the credentials to get hired on with Demand. Be sure to give a good writing sample, and it helps if it's a "How to" formatted article similar to what you would find on eHow.com (which is owned by Demand). Be sure to state your Textbroker experience as well as any you have writing for private clients. Also include any education you have with writing, such as a college English class.

Also, there is Constant Content. This site allows you to publish your articles and decide how much you want to charge for them. There is a section of requests from other users on the site that can help guide you on which topics are more likely than others to sell.

It is also a good idea to have an online portfolio offering your services and samples. If you set it up with Wordpress, you can have a testimonial page where your clients can leave their feedback regarding working with you. It would be like submitting comments, but you would be asking for their experiences with you so potential clients could see how happy others have been with your work. Also, provide 2-3 samples of the different kinds of writing you can do, whether it be blog posts, articles, etc. Post sample content in a variety of niches so clients can see you can write about a number of subjects.

Once your portfolio is up, add a link to it in your signature here and become active on the forum, particularly in threads that discuss articles and other content. You can also find private clients on

Any suggestions for setting up an online portfolio without my own domain? I do plan on buying one but until they unfreeze my paypal I can't buy another one. Really wishing I had gotten it when I bought my first one and my hosting. >_<

Finally got the paypal thing figured out and bought writingbyamanda.com... I have wordpress on it now since I've been learning to use it. Would just using html work better for something like this? I know how to use html and use dreamweaver and stuch. Otherwise I need to pick a good theme for wordpress.

I checked it out. The way it works is there is a small assignment board of articles you can get instant pay for. It is rather small. Other than that you can submit articles on almost anything and send them in. They will decide if they want to pay you anything up front, or they may decide to pay you depending on page views. The average for that is $1/1000 page views and you will receive that as long as the article is posted online and getting views.

Great tips from the warriors here. I'm not really a good writer but I'm finding ways to improve my writing and make my content to have much more flavour. Usually I would write a content with simple words so that readers will not have a hard time reading it.

However, I would like to take my writing to a higher level. Any writers can recommend me or share some tips on how to improve my writing skills? Ebooks? Courses? Tips?

That DS idea sounds interesting, although $15 is borderline for me. What volume is to expect in case someone gets accepted....eg. how much can i write/realistically make with them?
(I can write high quality content FAST...but only one or two articles/week would not be worth it)

Thank you for the information. I think my plan for now is to get my website ready so I have it to send to people, then I will have for when I email people about prospective jobs on craigslist or other sites. Once I get a little more money I would love to post up on Warriors for Hire as well.

I'm another one who is meh about DS. In theory you should be able to write 6 articles a day and get $100 and they pay twice a week, right?

But what people are saying about finding a topic is absolutely right. When 'how to fix cooling rods on an Epsilon 2485i mini-refrigerator' and 'how to configure an Audi8's key system' in the 'home and family' section, it's hard to wade through and find one you can write in a reasonable amount of time. They title based on keywords, not on what makes sense.

They start beginners out with only ehow articles it seems, so you have to find 'tools/ingredients/things you'll need' for every article. If you're writing an article on 'how to communicate with your dad' that can get messy because then you've got the editors to deal with.

I have not even made $30 bucks there because it was simply too time consuming for what the pay is. I keep thinking to try it again....maybe today lol.

You can achieve you goal but just you need to concentrate on quality service with some of review copies like giveaway to check your work. Then they come to know about your quality work and may place orders. It takes too much patience to get client but after you get you need to manage relationship to get into future deals.

If you want to open a service website, you can open a Joomla site. It has meta keyword facilities, and your site will be automatically ranked in google. I'm sure you'll get some gigs out of that. People like professional business sites than individual freelancers, as they think they are reliable.
