    GOOD IDEA!

This is exactly how I've personally SOLD a couple of my own sites...

It doesn't sell instantly, so don't expect results overnight, give it a few months. So if you're looking for instant results this is not the method.

    Hope this helps ;-)

For small sites it would be fine. For sites with a good member base it wouldn't be so good.

I agree, it might put some members off.

    Yeah, my BAD!

Forgot to ask whether it was a NEW site or not... As the only one's I sell with a "FOR SALE" sign on are NEW sites and not one's that are already established as they are SOLD as PACKAGED!

    My deepest apologies

That's a interesting method,I never tried that but I would think that most website visitors are not website buyers so the potential interest in buying would be low, probably would be better to place the site in front of buyers on sites like Flippa instead.

I think it's just the same as anything else one might sell: I certainly wouldn't think that a "for sale" sign on a house or a car indicates desperation, and for most people that logic probably applies to websites as well.

If the website is a navigable, profitable, properly optimized and appealing site then it would generate interest regardless of current member opinions. If it's a crap site then no one's going to care if there's a "for sale" banner or not anyway.

Sounds like a good strategy if implemented alongside other selling or flipping tactics.
