Today I got on the first page StumbleUpon for 5 minutes . It referred more than more than 600 visits within these few minutes.
Here are the stats: (I measured with Google Analytics)

Have you did this before? I know that loads of you have did it .
Share your thoughts.

Thanks for your time.

Its called the SU honeymoon period. Watch it become nothing over the next few weeks/months. The quality of the traffic is crap as well.

I have never had a single conversion from SU traffic. Not saying it can't be done but from my experience the traffic was of very poor quality.

        Cheers

That's a lot of traffic for 5 minutes. Never happened to me, but most of my niches aren't SU-friendly.

Yeah most of the traffic is stumblers clicking on the stumble button, seeing your site for 2 seconds, then onto the next website.

    Yea StumbleUpon is amazing.

As long as you have content that is not "salesy" you can get some really good numbers...

And, if you want to "Jumpstart" your efforts but $10 of ads...which they rotate in with normal StumbleUpon posts. Usually if you do this you can get a lot of "free" traffic if enough people "like" your site!

Stumble is great and if you are good at writing your titles and tags you will pick up lots of views. here are two sites stats for stumble. One of the sites was just built last month.

    and the second

Ill share some more examples later when I have time to make some caps. I dont have any huge stumbles but its still great for traffic sends much more then google does in almost every case.

The trick with stumble is to catch the attention of the surfer faster then normal as they will hit that button and be gone right away if your not catching their attention very quickly

THe problem with SU is that people care about hitting the stumble button more than your site.

I use stumble as a search engine, most of the time I find the prefect search results using stumble. I agree you have to be prepared for a lot of people to leave right away unless you have what it is there looking for. get a few likes and your relevancy starts to rise. Good content goes a long way on stumble

Anyway, thanks to all for the replies. Yeah the traffic is very poor. I didn't even make one cent with affiliates or AdSense.

freakin awesome. I remember when my blog got some stumbleupon traffic it's freakin awesome seeing that huge spike. I stumble upon all my sites now. Most people on here say its crap but in reality its good traffic if your sites actually got something of value and grabs their attention. Also convert them via a lead.

Thks everyone... I was too very excited to get trffic from SU... Now its clear that such traffic is useless.

I wouldn't say it's useless, you just have to know how to take advantage of that traffic.

Previous posters have already given some insight on how to make the most of that traffic already.

Here is a hint, people coming from StumbleUpon aren't going to read a crappy squeeze page. They'll hit the back button as soon as they see the big red bold text.

Just out of interest, of the people that are saying how poor the SU traffic is, what sort of websites were you sending the traffic to? Sales pages? Squeeze pages? Blatant affiliate pre-sells?

It's obviously not geared towards direct response selling, but I imagine if you had an informative site or blog with solid informational / interesting / funny / controversial content, then SU could be quite effective. I'd imagine it's more about helping you build your audience / subscriber base that you can then monetize over the long term, rather than simply making a quick buck.

I personally don't have experience with SU yet, but I have a big content site in the works that I intend to try it out on in the near future. I saw that a site that is similar to what mine will be received about 100K visitors to just one of their posts through stumble upon! And it would probably be fair to assume that lots of traffic coming from outside of Google, is actually a good thing in Google's eyes. It will just be another way of measuring your site as quality.

Anyway, back to my original question, could those of you that aren't too impressed with SU traffic say exactly what you were sending the traffic to?

    Thanks,

    Matt

      Hi Matt,

I sent the traffic to one of my blog posts. It has got AdSense ads on it and I display Amazon affiliate ads as well.
I'm waiting forward to seeing the amount of money made!

      Anyway thanks for the question.

      Best Regards,

I would guess the benefit of SU is getting your message out there, build knowledge about your brand, and build backlinks to your site.

If you do well on SU, you will get traffic from facebook and twitter as well and your social status will increase.

It does not matter if you do not have the same convertion rate from SU as you get from Google, if you get 300 social visitors in 5 mins.

Yes! Stumbleupon is very good for getting easy traffic! But the bounce rate goes high when i stumble in exchange! But still it's a great thing to 700 visits in 5 minutes!

      It's not a hard thing...

1.) Gain loads of followers (you need at least 100)
2.) You need to have loyal followers
3.) You have to have exceptional content

StumbleUpon is good for making really long, quality posts go viral. Other than that it is quite useless.

It is mostly beneficial for blogs, and as I've said, if you write a super helpful or totally unique post, or a giant list post (The 100 Best _____) or something, SU can make the post go viral, potentially turning people into subscribers.

But for selling, it's near worthless.

        • If you think of Stumbleupon as crowdsourcing a test of your landing page, it makes a lot of sense.

It is an easy and inexpensive way to fine-tune your site. I've been running SU Paid Discovery on my blog for nearly a week -- the numbers are very revealing. It's helped me make some rewarding changes.

You guys who discard anything that doesn't bring you an immediate sale crack me up! Listen up and listen good: People on the web are looking for entertaining, intriguing or fun and they'll only stand for being sold to if you use one of those techniques. So here's a good test for your offer: Would it intrigue anyone who wasn't specifically looking for IM? Does it suck people in in spite of themselves?
