Top 10 Google Rankings For Content I Didn't Write

For the past month or so I've had a poorly designed fitness blog where the only content I've been posting has been articles from article directories.

I've set up this blog more or less as an experiment to see what exactly would happen. My objective was to see how much traffic I could generate by simply republishing reprint articles.

The results thus far have been impressive.

What I've found is that often times I can use reprint articles to rank in the top 10 google results for certain keyword phrases.

Of course, there is a small catch. I've only been ranking in the non-US Google search engines like canada, UK, and so on.

But a top 10 ranking is a top 10 ranking and I have certainly been seeing the traffic.

I don't know if this is surprising to anyone but certainly has been surprising to me. Apparently the duplicate content penalty is not 100% correct if indeed it's correct at all.

Ultimately it turns out that you can indeed get traffic and rankings simply by using articles from article directories.

BTW- I didn't edit or change the articles from the directories in anyway, I simply copy and pasted them into my blog.

There are a lot of theories about the dup content penalty.. some say it exits and some say its crap.. and the opinion usually depends on the persons background or orientation.

From my own personal experience I have not had any copied articles (from article directories) rank well... and second thing is I had a major client (a film and acting school) who had 3 websites all with the same content and rankings were bad... when we created individually unique content for each of those sites, ranking got better for the main site and the other two site also ended up ranking on the engines.

I have quite a few subscribers who are using my PLR content and are ranking high on Google, MSN/Live, Yahoo and Ask. They simply copy and paste. Some change the titles slightly, keep the keyword, but many don't even do that. I'm not saying that is the right way but they all say the same thing it's getting them traffic and conversions to sales.

Of course I think it's from my writing and my team of native English speakers.:p

Seriously, my mentor who is well known here on the forum, is fairly well convinced, as I am, that you can get traffic and sales by using very well written PLR content. I can honestly say I don't write junk nor do my back up team of writers.

Please understand one of the reasons my subscribers get the placement and traffic they do is also to the right selection of the keywords/phrases and the amount of competition to the exact phrases I use. Also I make sure each article is SEO for what they are looking for. Including the use of LSI in every article.

Nice experiment. Indeed there's no penalty for duplicate content on different sites. It wouldn't make sense at all if there was such a penalty.

It depends on what keywords you're targeting.

Some keywords are ultra-competitive. In this case, your site would bounce in and out of the SERPs depending on the search terms, finally vanishing into the supplemental indexes for good in around three months without unique content.

Unique content is vital for competitive keywords, much less so for others.

        It all depends. :-)

Confession: I set up niche blogs months in advance of working with them with ten PLR articles. By the time I get around to doing real work with them, they're nicely indexed. However, I know they won't get long-lasting rankings without unique content and backlinks.

        Cheers

The blog was started in mid november and all of the content is duplicate content. Right now the blog is averaging around 60 hits a day. I have submitted this blog to technorati and most of the other blog directories as well.

      Links....

      Yahoo: 238 links
      Google: 1,090 links

So about 1k in backlinks I guess.

No I didn't do any article marketing but I did submit about 25 videos or so to traffic geyser using their free 30 day trial. This is where almost all of my links are coming from.
