Amazon PPC - Anyone noticed this?

I've been building Amazon sniper sites over the past two months or so and I've noticed something which I found amusing.

With the longer tailed keywords there was no adwords there at all for the first couple of weeks. Those sites start ranking, I start making Amazon sales and Amazon sponsored ads turn up in Google.

It's fair enough and it's a good tactic on their part, but I just wonder is it one guys job to look at affiliate sales and see where they can get some low CPC ads.

I don't like their sponsored ads on Google. It's not looking out for affiliates. They don't have your best interest in mind.

Not to stir the pot here, but who in the hell said Amazon gave a damn about its affiliates? They used them to grow their business exponentially and now are the largest and most powerful online retailers in the world.

Amazon has one interest in mind and it doesn't involve anyone with an Amazon Associates account. With that said I still build sites promoting their products and I do quite well.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

No they'll take some of my sales but it's still free traffic on my end and the majority of people will still ignore sponsored ads. Although I'd assume Amazon gets a better CTR there than most.

Why do you think they banned affiliates from sending traffic to them via PPC???

Wow, really? I haven't seen this, though I can't say I've been actively looking either. Makes total sense though, they're probably automating this to some degree. I don't think it would be too hard for them to write an algorithm that analyzes incoming (converting) traffic from affiliates and mine their sites for keywords, or something like that.
