Value of own blog V posting on Facebook page?

Hi y'all,

My site is new and I am now looking at how to expand conversation about my site. I write articles for it using very original analysis, but these take time and so content does't change daily.

So the way I see it, so that I can spend more time on the actual business, is to either have a blog that I write for daily and is perhaps written from my dogs perspective with my training concepts thrown in OR starting up a facebook page and having people comment on the wall, then maybe wanting to jump to my site,

Now I understand that either way I go, I will need to moderate comments, the way I see it is that having my own blog gives me some control, but may require more off page optimization to the main blog page and I am not sure how easy it will be to stop spammers on the page (assuming that I allow comments). If I go the facebook path then even if it becomes a roaring success, it does not necessarily mean any more visitors to my site? Does it?

I get that some people will say to do both, but as I am a local dog walking business, solo managed, I want to be smart about how I use my time, and generate local callers.

You should do both methods and not every blog needs to be updated daily. Provide quality information and have others share it is the way to go

I guess my concern is that neither will really make a difference. For instance I have read that blogs rarely make a difference to the bottom line. I dont want to blog as an online diary and live in hope, it has to have an objective goal such as increasing visitors and increasing real clients.

And on facebook, wont it mostly be about getting international visitors who can never convert to visitors. As you can see, I am not completely convinced about building FB sites at the moment either.

You do need some type of platform to reach your customers. Especially in a business like yours, no one is going to leave their dog with you if they can't trust you. For that reason I would think that facebook would be a top priority for you. If you can't update your own content daily, pass along other quality info to your fans, it doesn't have to be your own. Be sure that you have their best interest at heart and people will appreciate it. Best of luck to you.

Well don't believe everything you read. Let me illustrate for you. Please read the following: blogs do make a difference to the bottom line.

Now you have read the opposite, how are you going to find out the truth?

Not trying to be a smart ass here, but you do have to be careful what you are taking in; first consider who wrote the comment and evaluate whether or not they are qualified to make those comments.

In a perfect world, you should have both the Facebook Page and the blog. In 2011, every business should have a website, and I think a blog is perfect for your business.

Facebook is where everyone goes, so you can use the Facebook page to drive traffic to your blog. In time, you can optimize the blog to get organic traffic through Google, but Facebook should be part of your strategy too.
