I'd suggest you contact your bank if you're worried but generally if they just have an account number and sorting code/ iban then they shouldn't be able to withdraw money without ID/ PIN/ signature or login in details if online banking.

Yes, I say contact your bank and tell them exactly what information you gave this other guy. I did something completely stupid, even worse that this, and thankfully it all turned out all right. I had to close my bank account, and cancel my debit card. Thankfully I had more than one account, so I could just transfer all my funds from one to the other. But let me tell you, it was a big pain! Then I had to wait awhile till I had a new card...etc.

What had happened is this; I got an email that LOOKED as if it came from PAYPAL. It was a VERY real looking email! It said that there had been several unsuccessful attempts to log-in to my account, and before I could log-in again I had to verify ALL my details! I was stupid enough to believe them, then after I filled out the form and hit submit, it said: oops, this link is broken! That's when I got REALLY worried! So I immediately called the bank, told them what I did, they shut down my card and my account that same day. No harm done except for a lot of hassle!
Lesson learned the hard way! Don't fall for things without checking up on them first!

Contact your bank ASAP, tell them what happened, and open a new account and close the current one. Hopefully they can do this before you lose any money. If you do lose any money however, ask if the bank has any protection. They should. Same thing happened to my mom. She got 400 bucks stolen out of her bank account. They refunded the money. Lesson learned, use paypal or something similar next time
