How to Research an Affiliate Program

Before you join an affiliate program, I know you have to do your research about all the different options you have to choose from.

You need to get all the answers about the affiliate program you are about to join such as, what hit per sale ratio is it? What stats are available about your affiliate sales?, Is it a one or two tier program?, what is the percentage for commission? etc.

What are some of the other questions I should find answers to concerning any affiliate program before I join.

Are you referring to joining an affiliate program for a specific product, or a network like Commisssion JUnction etc?...For a single product I would like to review the product and take a close look at the sales page. ...A very close look. All that 'hit ratio' stuff is not going to matter or be believable, imo. How would you even check any of it? ...and your traffic source is likely to be different than what they are quoting from. (assuming it's not all smoke and hype anyway)

How well written is the sales copy?
How professional is the affiliate sales process?
Will my traffic respond to the offer?
Does the sales page include anything that pulls visitors away from earning me the commission (ie - contact the seller pages, seller opt-in forms, etc)?
What are the affiliate payment terms?
How reputable is the affiliate provider?

The first thing i would do if looking to promote a product is check out the sales page.
You need to see if you think it will convert, look at it as a potential buyer.
Also avoid sales pages with opt in boxes as you will more than likely end up losing the customer as once the vendor has their e-mail address they will most definitely end up getting any sale from their promotional e-mails that they send out.

I wouldn't discount these straight away. I run my affiliate program to an opt-in page, as my product sells through a perpetual launch system. I use Rapid Action Profits which reinstalls the affiliate cookie every time an opt-in clicks through on any of the emails I send them. I don't even offer them anything for sale until 10 days into the Autoresponder sequence. My best affiliate sent me 48 sales last week, using this system.

Though I do get what you're saying...just be wary of unscrupulous vendors!
