How can I get my product endorsed by credable publications?

Hello, my name is Jesse and I'm a newbie...

I'm in the fitness niche and I've just finished my first product. Well finished for now I guess, I still have a lot of work to do. But the product is live right now.

I've seen a lot of other fitness products that claim say "As Seen In Men's Health" or "As seen on TV" etc.

My question is, how do I go about making this happen for my product? Does it cost money? Do I just purchase an ad in these magazines? Do I just send them a free copy of my product? Or do I write an article for them to use in their publication?

Maybe there is no easy way of doing this, but I thought I would check to see if anyone knows how this is done. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S. Just wanted to say that this forum and it's members are RAD!

Well if all you want is to be able to claim "as seen in xxxxx" then yes either one would work The easiest way is probably to buy a small, cheap ad though.

The best (as well as much less expensive) way would be to have an article published in these niche magazines. Publications seldom "endorse" products, but there is really nothing much better than to have even an implied endorsement by having published articles in such high authority outlets.

Thanks for the advice, however I did a little research on what it would cost to run an add in one of these magazines...let's just say it's a little out of the ball park, ha ha. Maybe I'll try submitting an article their readers would find helpful. Thanks again!

Before you just start flinging articles at them, contact the editor and ask for an editorial calendar and some sample issues. Most print magazines have their topics set months in advance, and bales of 'under the door' submissions. Most of them get the round file treatment unread.

If you really want to go this route, get yourself a copy if Writer's Market and study it. If that's out of your ballpark, too, most public libraries have a copy on the shelf in the reference section. It might be a year or two old, but it will still work for you. Just make a phone call to get the current correct name and title of the person you would submit to.
