Please help a newbie.

hi all,
I am new to this forum and to IM as well.
after been waiting in the fence for a whole year now and after wasting almost 4 months just reading and searching randomly in diffrent directions I think I can start my online biz doing affiliate programs in the "food" section and want to choose something like "low sodium" stuff .e.g pasta sauces, or bbq sauces as my subniche, I am just not quite decided yet and this is where I need your kind help:-

1- can anybody here please enlight me if this is ever profitable for a newbie like me? I mean subniches in the food categroy?
2-I specifically need help in determining level of competition, went to google and typed"BBQ" a whole more than 5M pages came in the left side as results 4 my search, however, I couldn't figure out any thing and I didn't see any in the right side of the page, may be I typed the wrong word- I have no idea.
3-I can alternatively sell a clickbank product about 'how-to" stuff in the food section, e.g. bbq receipes? but again I noticed there is a lot of free receipes floating in the net, and probably will find no buyers for it.

4-is it easier to be an amazon associate and sell bbq stuff from there? e.g. recepies, grilling stuff, books...etc? is promoting amazon profitable for newbies like me? there are also some good same products at CPA networks but they declined me for not having my website.

Can anyone there read this level of competitoin correctly for me on google?
I know I should do this part by myself but this is really driving me crazy.
thank you so much WF members.

You my friend need to use the Google Keyword Tool: https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeti...AS#search.none

Plug in your keyword and look for what your competition is. You'll want at least 1200 exact matches per month for the keyword you want to target. On the flipside you don't want too much competition either so steer clear of the high number of exact matches. You'll also want to explore if people are actually buying products in your intended niche. So check out Amazon and Clickbank to get a feel for what's hot and what's not. Something that's selling only 10 units a month is not going to help you.

If you really want to dig deep I suggest investing in Market Samurai which is the best research tool around. You can get it free for 40 days through Ed Dale's The Challenge. Best of luck on your new endeavors!

    Hello Goldenbbq,

Welcome to the world of internet marketing. I agree with Charlotte Jay that you should use Google's Keyword Tool. It is extremely powerful and free

    Additionally, you asked...

You will have to do some of the research to learn about the amount of profit that you can make in your sub-niche category, but as for profit to be made, chances are yes. There is profit to be made in most niches online, you have to figure out exactly the method that you are going to use to get it.

I believe what you are saying is that there was no paid advertising in the search. This is an indication of two things. First of all it shows that there is little or no competition for Google Adwords. This is good to know because if you set up a PPC campaign then your CPC will be lower for a high page ranking. Secondly this tells you that there is not a currently a heavy business market for this search term. Again, this could be gold for you if you have a unique selling position, but many times this means that there is no money to be made there. Just keep researching and you will find your unique angle to the marketplace.

There is always a free alternative for most online niches. Play into the mold and create your own free product to offer and begin to build a mailing list. Then offer the affiliate ebook and other affiliate products through your follow up emails.

Get a website up and running. Once you have done this you will begin to realize how you can connect the pieces of the puzzle. Amazon can be profitable for newbies, just like any of these other methods can be profitable. You just have to create a plan of action and see it out to the end. Then learn from that execution and build it better next time (or optimize your current set-up).

Hope that helps and Good luck!

Yes. In fact, if you're very knowledgable about low sodium foods, you could probably make a whole blog about, too, that might attract food lovers, health eaters, etc.
