WP backup/migration options

I have Xcloner installed in one blog I am about to migrate, settings in all. I see alot of people recommend backupbuddy, but wanted to get opinions on backupbuddy vs wptwin vs xcloner.

Does anyone have experience with all three?

to just extract a site to a new domain as is, with all settings and plugnis, is xcloner sufficient? or do I need to pay for backup buddy or wptwin?

  • I've never heard of XCloner before, but I would recommend WP Twin, as it is what I use myself, and it's quite good.

Umm... I wouldn't use Backup Buddy because it's a Wordpress plugin, and as such it works internally.

WP Twin is a script that works externally, not a plugin, so it lowers the risks of any negative consequences...

I have not used or heard of Xcloner, but have been using Backupbuddy quite a bit and love it!

I have also heard great things from my associates about WPTwin, but have not used it personally as I have already been using BackupBuddy and had no need to switch.

I can recommend WPTwin. Initially had a few hiccups which proved to be something with my Hosting, but Wptwin’s support got me sorted out and it’s a fantastic tool.

    all the best,

There is seriously no need to pay for a tool to move a wp install. If you can use cpanel, notepad and ftp files you can do the whole thing manually in about 10 or 15 minutes tops. Less if you are moving it to a different server but using the same domain name.

Backing up site to your computer.

    1. ftp all files down to computer.
    2. go to cpanel>phpmyadmin>export>save to file.

    Uploading to new server
    1. If same domain name check and make sure if your username is the same. If so then upload all the files to new location. If not first edit your wp_config file in notepad changing the first part of the username and database name to your new username.

    2. upload all the files.

    3. go to cpanel>sql databases and create a username and database using the info in your wp config file. (make sure you add the user to the database)

    4. If you are changing domains open up your sql file and do a search and replace for the domain name. Save file.

If not go straight to cpanel>phpmyadmin>import> browse to database file and click on go.

    Done..........Easy as pie......
