Updated Today - Amazon Associates Programme Operating Agreement (UK)

Just recieved an email from amazon EU associates (UK included) that lead to the new operating agreement:

https://affiliate-program.amazon.co...._1941_24883341

I am a little confused whether amazon requires us to actually do anything here.

Do we need to confirm by doing a digital sig, and pressing a link somewhere?

Anyone got any clarity on this?

I got the same thing this morning. I haven't a clue how it differs from the old one - although I'm sure it must be different in some way or another .

      Hi,

If you click the 'see what's changed' link at the top, you'll find that that is a little more enlightening (but only just).

      That link sends you HERE.

It's worth reading if you're at all concerned about complying, although if that's the case for you, I don't envy you.

There's stuff buried deep within (the EU section) like this -

You will not, without our express prior written approval, use any Content or Special Link, or otherwise link to the Amazon Site, on or in connection with any site or application designed or intended for use with a mobile phone or other handheld device, or any television set-top box (e.g., digital video recorders, cable or satellite boxes, streaming video players, blu-ray players, or dvd players) or Internet-enabled television (e.g., GoogleTV, Sony Bravia, Panasonic Viera Cast, or Vizio Internet Apps).

        I just got it too.

You'll have to identify the fact you're an affiliate:

You must, however, clearly state the following on your site: "[Insert your name] is a participant in the Amazon Europe S.à r.l. Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to [insert applicable site name (Amazon.co.uk/Javari.co.uk/Amazon.de/ Javari.de/Amazon.fr/Javari.fr/Amazon.it)]."
        And this

        27. You will not reproduce any customer reviews or star ratings from an Amazon Site on your site unless you have obtained that customer review or star rating through the Product Advertising API and you comply with the requirements set forth in the Licence Agreement.
        And this

        28. You will not display on your site, or otherwise use, any Amazon Content to advertise or promote any products that are offered on any site which is not an Amazon Site (e.g., products offered by other retailers).
And they're just what I picked up on the first read. Lord only knows what else is hiding in there.

I'm a little confused here, does this mean Amazon's terms state you have to identify you're an affiliate on every page where you have Amazon links and you have to identify yourself by name rather than by company name ?

Not every page; every site. For example, in the sidebar.
I put the site name in the disclosure, and have seen others use "this site" or "the site owner".

I had assumed that the .com and .co.uk agreement would be pretty much the same, but apparently not - no reference to customer reviews or star ratings in the .com agreement.

  • That was well hidden. I did see the email, but didn't spot many of those changes when I scanned through the document.

I wonder how this applies when promoting products through email? Does the statement have to go somewhere in each email, or would just having this on the site which the list members used to sign up be enough?
