Christmas Emails to Customers/Lists - What do you do?

Hello Everyone

I was wondering with christmas fast approaching what everyone does in regards to sending holiday wishes via email to clients/customers/contacts etc. Do you use it as chance to reconnect with people and reestablish relationships? Do you try make some sales? Ignore it entirely?

Here's what we do (not really quite in IM so a bit different):
My partner and I have been running our own communications company for about 9 months now so we are getting ready to send out holiday wishes. Since a main focus of our work is Publicity and PR, I mocked up the following concept which will the be included in the email body.

(the idea is that we will say something along the lines of "In need of some good PR in the new year? - we'd be happy to help")

#christmas #customers or lists #emails

any mail without a sales pitch brings a "human touch".....and that i say from a subscriber's view

      Hi,

      Ignore it entirely
That's what I do. But then, my business is not so much 'customer-facing' and I like to be different and always run in the opposite direction to the herd - I'm looking forward to the new summer.

I like your mock up though, it's clever & funny.

        The mock-up is funny...

My offline clients get a real Christmas card, hand-signed by me with the simple inscription "Thanks for your business again this year. Have a fabulous holiday season!"

Cheers guys. Can i ask without the explanation is it immediately 'gettable'? I lose all perspective once i start working on something. Also, we want it to be funny, but we don't want to come across as pushy or salesy. Does it have any of that vibe you think or is the humour enough to sort of get away with what we're implying?

Exrat - yeah fair enough. The new summer!?! Isn't that like 6 months away?

John - yeah, we've hand delivered a few pressies for some of our clients in town (granted we're still new so there's not very many yet!).

Have you ever tried an English winter? They look nice on postcards but...

I don't know if it's more common over there, but over here 'publicists' doesn't seem quite right. Perhaps 'all kids who grew up to work for newspapers...' - unless I'm not getting it either

For the US market, at least, you might change the word 'Publicist' to 'Paparazzi'...

Here, a publicist is someone who works to get positive exposure for a client, or at least spin negative exposure in the best light possible.

Paparazzi are the hordes of camera toting scandal mongers looking for the latest dirt on celebrities. And in the USA, the definition of "celebrity" is getting pretty loose...
