How do articles make money?

An article makes you money because it promotes a product or service. Sometimes you can use an article to drive traffic to your squeeze page, which in turn allows you to promote a product or service to a list.

An article can also generate advertising revenue for you, especially if you rock Adsense on your sites.

I'm no pro on distribution of articles, but there are plenty of experts on this forum that will be able to help you out.

You write a quality article about a product or topic and then back it up with a product you want to sell via a link in your resource. Some article directories allow you to link within the article as well. These articles if they get popular enough or backlinked enough to be ranked can make money for months maybe even years.

Write about your niche and direct readers to your Squeeze Page at the end of the article. This way you will have more chances of converting sporadic visitors into customers effective. An autoresponder can do that - if properly configured.

In my case (and this is also true for many others here) it works by gradual syndication of the article, so that targeted audiences continue to see it and click the link(s) in the resource-box at the end, arriving at one of my websites, where they're presented with further information about the subject, product reviews, other articles, and a prominent opt-in on every page of the site (together with a prominently promoted "offer" on the front page, explaining why they might want to opt in for a free book on the subject and occasional email updates giving still further information about it). Personally, after a lot of split-testing in several niches, I no longer use "squeeze pages" because although I can build bigger lists that way, I earn more from them over the long-term if I use the system outlined above, instead. Different people opt in to each.

Every new article I write is initially published and indexed on my own site (for all the long-term SEO reasons explained in this thread), and then sent by email to the network of people I know who've previously re-published my work on their targeted, relevant sites/blogs with my backlink in place, and then submitted in identical form to Ezine Articles (and often to one or two other article directories, too, though there's no value in overdoing this). I've "found" many of these people through their having syndicated one or more of my articles from EZA.

An "article directory" is a depository of online content which is freely available (within the TOS of each directory, of course) to be syndicated by webmasters and ezine/newsletter compilers. That's what article directories are there for, and that's the purpose they serve.

I continue to submit almost all my articles to EZA, because the more of them I have there, the more likely they are increasingly to become further syndicated, attracting further targeted visitors to my sites (as well as some additional, valuable context-relevant backlinks for my site, though EZA's own backlinks are close-to-worthless by comparison). EZA has served me far better for this purpose than any other article directory.

There are also huge numbers of ezine publishers actively looking for content, who are happy to publish high quality articles on any subject you can imagine. These can be found from such sources as the "Directory of Ezines".

Getting your articles syndicated (whether by yourself or by others, via the article directory route) is a way of developing an asset-based business which produces gradually increasing residual income from work already done.

Alexa pretty much summed it up. Your article will have a link to your money site within the text. Over time, people will read the article and eventually click the link. This, in turn, sends people to your money page which may result in a conversion.

They also provide you with targetted traffic to your site which in turn generates you some revenue.

You're pretty much correct about the links in the article or author's link. But the other thing that is going on is that after a while you can start building yourself as an authority in whatever niche area you choose to write about. People are very impressed when they see that you have numberous articles to your name. This shows that you are not just after the quick dollars, but that you take your work seriously.

Articles make money by directing human traffic through the link inside the author's resource box. Hopefully the website in the link can keep the visitors there long enough to make them pay for something.

Articles make money because of the links in them.

As long as the site is still up, or the affiliate product, then once someone finds and reads (more than likely skims) the articles that were written months or years ago, if they like what they read they'll click the link, which sends them to that article authors money site.

Try it out yourself.

Find some solid affiliate products (if you don't have any products), then write 4-8 articles about the benefits of the article (or one article per benefit) and then publish them to articles directories..

If you've create amazing content, and follow it up with an amazing product, then you too will be making money from the articles you wrote months or years ago.

Hi, this is my very first post, and on a topic I like. Articles can gain you money from advertising revenue with Adsense..as already mentioned..and in several other ways. For example, articles help establish you as an expert in your field (if written correctly and helpful to the reader). That means that once they're done reading if they want more info, or need additional help, where do they go? Your Resource box at the end of the article, or to your profile...which if you're smart leads them to your squeeze page or a site where they can complete a call to action and become a paying customer. So Adsense, Resource Boxes, and even pay for performance (ex. Yahoo Contributor Network....the more readers you get the more money you make in performance pay.) can build revenue long after the article is written. Similarly, Hubpages allows you to post links to the Amazon affiliate program at the end of the article--if the Amazon products are relevant to the article material, you probably have a good chance for sales conversions.

Lastly, it would not be a bad idea to take several of the articles you've written...and if there are nonexclusive rights granted to the article database...to take those same articles (perhaps revise them by about 20%..headings, titles, body, etc.) and turn them into an ebook. Yes...repurposing your articles into ebooks (etc.) is an additional revenue stream.. Hope this post was helpful. Best.
