Someone sent me a link to this, I hadn't read it before. I have no affiliation whatsoever with the site or the message, but I did find it somewhat intriguing. Have you read it? If so, what are your thoughts on the message?

The Death of Crap

Again, not my site nor have I any connection to it, other than as an observer.

    Steve,

That's from "X." He's a member here, a bit of a PPC genius and a "name" in the business. You should *cough* opt in to his list - his emails are legendary.

I'm familiar with Mr. X. However, I hadn't read that particular piece until one of the buyers of one of my WSO's forwarded me the link last night, so it was new to me.

      Ok...was just trying to clarify...but back to your question;

I agree with every word he says, not only on that page but on most of his others too. He's refreshingly direct and spells it out how he sees it.

I think everyone should read that page, reflect on and understand the message. It's simply common sense that successful people already know and that he is applying to the IM niche, which is all and precisely what it is - a sliver in the wider sphere of marketing and business.

The market for IM products is a tiny niche and almost invisible and irrelevant to most people that use the internet. Don't forget that. By drilling down and building one's own niche within a niche, he's right, it is a great way to become successful fast. And capitalise in an over saturated niche that is full of probably more than 95% of useless, crap products created by the "me toos" desperately scrabbling around trying to cash in on the gold rush.

How many people killed themselves to get hold of Franks FIVE YEAR OLD product yesterday, simply because he is Frank for example and simply because it is a "me too" roadmap, although probably a pretty good one?

An example of how to do things the right way and with the greatest respect (and love) to Dana, is to see how she went from WF newbie to Twitter goddess in about a month! Positioning herself in the IM community as the go to girl, especially around here, with ease and authority. Whether it was by accident or design, so many can learn so much from studying this one example. It was simply wonderful to watch as a real-time "live!" case study.

He makes a lot of excellent points, but ones that, honestly, should have already been obvious to everyone.

Hey Brian, I've got to agree with you there. He has a fantastic mindset, and he gets PPC - which I think shows he had a good base of cutting through the rubbish and testing / altering.

I just re-read this. I read it maybe a year and a half ago.
At the time I didn't understand a lot of the terminology.
Now I do. Mostly from reading the WF.

If I had investigated and tried all those things he mentions
my business would probably be over.

Personally I distrust the gimmicks. I probably lose a
lot of income by avoiding them... but I look at the time
investment to even learn enough to consider the risks
of each new scheme and I often pass.

Like X. I would rather contribute to accurate, focused
information... not aboyt everything related to making
money online, but the small range of stuff I can get
my little pea-brain around. I've been bit in the ass
enough times by IM things that weren't what I thought
to start believing that while I'm far from the sharpest tool
in the shed specialization and skill-development counts
for a lot in the long term.

    I came from a craftsmanship background. I self-apprenticed,
read a lot of books, worked on the skills and then gradually
was able to understand (and explain) how to do the thing...
"here's how you build a guitar, here's how you build a chair,"
and so forth. Marketing is different but the same too... because
here we traffic in ideas and concepts... things that make you
think (and people hate to think) rather than things you can
    hold in your hands.

Anybody ever felt a surge of personal power getting a set of
IM DVDs in the mail? I have. It's nonsense of course, but
somehow the physicallity of the product - the tangibility -
makes the promised benefit seem within easy reach.

Contrast that with a stack of dusty old books about selling
soap and lye and coal by mail. Yawn. I disciplined myself
to read those old books though and gradually started to
    like doing it.

    Just rambling.

I've though for a long time about the LIST : people subscribe
to yoru emails in CONTEXT. If you want to win them over
for REAL stay in that context. Change and grow, but do it
gradually so it's palatable. Not: adsense one week, then
arbitrage, then MLM, then PLF, blah blah. This overstimulates
the brains of your readers and just confuses the hell out of them.

It would me. And I'm a much more devoted student of this
stuff than 98% of my subscribers are likely to be. I don't think
they are stupid - just busy with soccer games and taking the
dog to the vet and all that. They only have a small amount
of mental real-estate to devote to COMPREHENDING this
marketing gobbledigook! try to respect that.

Mr. X. - good letter. I liked the link to the WF at the end.

    Good one.

Admittedly I am a big fan of X, and I own most of his products.

When he first set up this page, I post the link (not aff link) on Warrior Forum. Somehow it got deleted, I don't know why.

Glad you guys finally see the values in it.

The Death of Crap.... Marketing will never die.

X should know that slamming folks with offers who haven't proven themselves yet as BUYERS is the right thing to do aside from removing them from your list without their knowledge.

There's no shame in cross-promoting to the blind marketing wanna-be's.

Let's remember, Mother Theresa was not an Internet Marketer and neither are anyone you are subscribed to unless you too suffer from marketing blindness.

There is an epiphany that will happen to those who are committed to their own excellence in this field as well; the marketing clarity that sharpens in the form of an apparition is in fact their new reality from which they are then ready to take their first step toward freedom with 20/20 vision.

What I am saying is that the responsibility is not that of the list owner to develop his sheep but the sheep to recognize when the gates are open to wander freely.

Most reading this will not understand the quote below... but X certainly will.

Tyler Durden: All right, if the applicant is young, tell him he's too young. Old, too old. Fat, too fat. If the applicant then waits for three days without food, shelter, or encouragement he may then enter and begin his training.

Should the word clarity really be allowed in a sentence like that? :p
