SMS advertising

I've never used this sort of system for advertising but I'm curious which is the best SMS plugin for wordpress.

Also is it guaranteed? What's to stop people from signing up with their friends phone numbers playing tricks?

    There's nothing really to stop them from doing that. Try to put something in your terms and conditions addressing that. There might not be that many people doing that at all. Ask your network about how they handle those sort of problems.

    To clarify more on the above, one of the mistakes that I see a lot of people doing with cell phones are marketing to them without a double opt-in (and sometimes without any opt-in). Text marketing is a little different than e-mail marketing, and although there's a lot of "grey area" now, the laws are changing to become more strict there from what we've seen.

    Having said that, any method you use I'd be careful to make sure that they're in compliance with text messaging best practices.

    So double opt in means they sign up, it maybe will send them a text message and they have to reply? Tht seems like the best bet.

    Anyone know a plugin for wordpress or a program where I can do my own list and market to my own clients?

      The problem I found with the wordpress plugins was there was no way for the customer to confirm an opt-in, or opt-out via any automated process.

      The 2 plugins I have tried are "Wordpress Text Message" and "SMS Text Message". They both worked. Messages were transmitted quickly but I would be cautious using it but for limited reasons. Perhaps there is or will be a better plugin option.

    I've never down mobile marketing. Is there a reasonable priced course?

      What I've been using for over six years is callfire.com. They do offer an online training program and live webinars. Unlike most systems, it works across all platforms and carriers nationwide, no set up costs or monthly fees. Just pay as you go for 3 cents per msg. My clients who have used other systems would go nowhere else.

        But Callfire has no white label reseller for SMS, correct? Did that change?

          Callfire has always had a white label option. It costs $500/year. They used to also have an affiliate program, which I think you are referencing. That was discontinued the first of the year because of widespread abuse.

    SMS is really a double edged sword....

    You can never be too sure that some elements will abuse it eventually....

    However if you use it effectively...its another arrow in your quiver.
