WordPress Theme Problems

I just bought a WP theme from ThemeForest and normally I just install the zip file in the control panel but this one doesn't seem to want to install this way.

I am certainly no WP expert and probably know just enough to be dangerous but if anyone has any suggestions I would certainly appreciate the help...

It is an HTML theme if this matters.

Thanks everyone.

If this is a regular Wordpress Theme you can install it in a couple of ways (I/m not sure what an HTML Theme is to Wordpress)

Anyway, you can do the install ZIP method you mentioned (and that failed)

Or you can un-Zip the theme and FTP it to the Themes directory of your Wordpress site.

    Then you would activate.

    That's it.

Assuming it actually is a WordPress Theme and not a HTML template, have a look at the contents of the zip file.

Sometimes the theme itself will be contained in the zip file with a readme file and sometimes some PSD graphics.

If you're using Hostgator, there is an FTP program built right in. Open it up and you'll see all the files in directory format. Just select the file on the left from your computer and then the destination on the right which is your website and click. It's quite simple to do.

I would recommend File Zilla. Download and then google search "How to use File Zilla" and watch the videos on you tube to get the general idea.

you may need to open a help thread here at Wanted - Members Looking To Hire You if you don't want to do the work because I know it can be very brain-swelling trying to figure out things for the first time but "better learn than never".

Is it an HTML template or a WordPress theme?

    ThemeForest sells both....

    Do you have a link?

Head over to themeforest. Get in touch with seller. He'll help you out.

I am a user there and I know customers can grab a great customer care there.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Just unzip it to your harddrive and upload via Filezilla to your theme folder and then activate it. It's well worth your time to just Google Filezilla and learn to use it.

I suspect when unzipping it created a "double folder"...

i.e. there is something like wp-content/themes/theme-folder/theme-folder/

    Check with your FTP.

Yes, it did but I caught the double folder thing and fixed that before uploading.

My control panel on the site says the stylesheet is missing.

If it says so... it means:
    - the style.css file was not in the uploaded folder
    - the style.css file doesn't have the proper 'heading info' (which I doubt knowing where you got it from)
    - the file got corrupted during the download/unzip/upload

Or... you never answered whether you bought the html template or the WP theme.

I don't really know what it is.

I searched for "WordPress themes" and it was one of the results.

        Not your fault....

I am guessing it came up when you searched "WordPress themes" because of the description on ThemeForest which says,

"Based on our popular Wordpress theme of the same name, the Freemium SaaS II HTML Theme..."

Safest way to go is to put your cursor on the "Categories" drop-down menu and then click on "WordPress"....then you can also search within that Category.
