I got free hosting and domain - but what should I do?

Dear All,

I feel lucky. Somebody gave me his domain and hosting for free, because he didn't get profit at all from his site. When he heard that I have no cash to buy domain and hosting, he offered his for free. Yes I will have to re-setup the web content since he already deleted it. But it will be no problem, I can learn to use Joomla or wordpress. So, I will take this opportunity to start my IM business journey. Yaay!!

But the problem is...I don't know what to do with this site. I'm totally newbie on IM, and there are so much to learn about IM which made me confused because I don't know where to start

The site already have domain name which is previously used to sell self development kind of ebook. But it doesn't have page rank at all. And it is also not hosted in US.

Any advise on what to do with this site?

I would also suggest that you go into blogging. Depending on how much you can stretch these resources out, maybe a whole network of blogs

If you like any niche (topic) then go ahead setup a wordpress blog & get some quality content in there, monetize it with ad or affiliate networks, start bringing quality traffic (with the use of SEO, article marketing, social media marketing, etc.) & keep optimizing it.

      Start small & grow big

      All the best

The ideas for blogging are great. And there are ways to make a wordpress site into more than a blog it can have many pages, but since you are learning I would start with the blog and learn the others as you go.

You have asked if you should blog about the niche that the domain name was created for. I would say yes, in that it would definately give you some seo to help with your traffic and page ranking, but that could be the wrong advice if the keywords are not optimized for traffic or customers that are interested in buying products in this area.

Are there any products that are related to the domain name? I am just curious. This could determine if it will be profitable, I would also strongly suggest wordpress for the ease of use and the amount of plugin options.

I hope this helps. If you need any more advice I would be happy to give you some. As so would many others on the forum. Just keep asking questions. We are all here to help each other. =D

            Thanks mate .

Ok, so it seems I will have to blog about self development stuff. This is completely new for me. Should I spare sometimes to read and learn about it? Or just refer to some free articles out there and re-writing it with my own writing style? Can I add affiliate link to some self development product right after each articles?

Also, does good English is mandatory? Because English is not my language, and I'm not confident enough to write in English . However, of course I do want to improve my English

I would definately learn some more on self development. It is very good to have this info and will make it easier for you to talk to potential clients. I would not have an affiliate offer every post. I would also look at articles that have good value and content. You can then write about what you have read. That way it is yours, but you are not spinning the articles you are really just giving what you have learned and helping others in the process.

Make sure that value is what you are about. Remember that giving value is the most important thing that you can do for any website.

I am not sure that you should do this in english, unless the website name is in english, then I guess I would learn. I would also suggest looking into finding a ghost writer if you can afford to that till your english improves, other wise find an english speaking friend that can do editing and proofreading for you.

Good luck with this. I would also remind you that consitency and at least 90 days of working at it will be very helpful. Remember if you get to a poiont where you want to give up, come here and ask for advice. There a plenty of us here that will give you advice and peep talks.

Got it. Thanks for your advise

I'll start with blogging not with the intention of getting money. (Though I want to make money from blogging / IM )

So I should start by giving value and learn to write from the heart.

Maybe by learning some self development stuff, I will improve my self as well :p

Whatever you do, please don't rewrite the content - you won't be adding anything of value to the reader by doing this. Spend some time reading up on self-development, and then start creating original posts on your blog.

Try to share helpful tips and advice with your readers, and of course you'd be able to promote affiliate products that are related to what you're blogging about - don't just promote random products, try to weave it in as an extension or recommendation of what you're writing about.

Your English would have to be reasonably good (but not perfect) since you're obviously going to be targeting English speaking readers. You can probably hire some decent proofreaders in this forum who can help you with the minor corrections that would most probably be needed.

That is really good, someone getting into the business without the intention of earning money but just aquiring the knowledge. There are many things that you can learn out of this industry, just do something that you are interested in and blogging is not a bad idea.

Congrats!! I completely related to this.. Just last week I got a similar deal as well, but on other terms. The guy wanted some help which took a considerable amount of time and had no cash but a domain/hosting space to barter and I took up the offer.

24hours later I turned his rather defunct site into a forum and 7 days down the line the forum has around 30 active users already.

The key is, see what the domain is all about. As you mentioned it's got to do with self development as suggested by most start with blogging. Use wordpress and build up on it.

Most important, make good use of this opportunity.

Any advise of how to check the history of domain? And how to find out if the site was blacklisted or not?
