How good is the layout of this website (URL inside)? Will it do well in other niches?

Hello Warriors,

I found a website while doing research on a writing project I'm currently working on.

The website is Diabetes | Type 1 Diabetes | Type 2 Diabetes

How does the layout of the website look? Is it any good? It has quite some advertisements, but doesn't look painful to the eye as the content is well laid out too. Or maybe it's just me.

I understand it might be difficult to answer directly how it looks. So, you can probably share your thoughts as to what you like about the layout of the site and what you don't like about it.

Also, will this kind of layout do well in other non-IM niches?

    I think it is decent. It could work for several niches. I would say that the blue was just a little harsh on my eyes tonight. That was the only draw back that I saw. It is like many of the new trends starting where there are several articles sliding through.

    It would work for other niches.

      I would agree with the blue, it needs to be taken down a shade and the dropdown menus are too large, reduce the font size in the dropdowns and takeout that sponsored section.

      I would also say as a visitor it's too busy. I needed something to catch my attention and draw me in.

      Unless it's already been toned down, I didn't personally have a problem with the blue.

      It does seem a little busy, and I wasn't quite sure where to look first. Then again, that could just be me. Overall though, I liked the design.

      I do think it could be used for other niches. However it would be best suited for a wider niche as opposed to a tightly focused one given there is so much happening on the front page. Think magazine as opposed to mini-site. Make sure this is something you can handle before investing a lot of your time in it.

    I like it, I'm impressed. I especially like the forum layout and colors. Is that a paid skin for phpbb?

    Also having a forum under a 'meet others' menu item strikes me as a bit of genius

    I didn't like the min-width being about 2 inches wider than the page on each side. Don't understand the point of that, but a lot of people keep their browsers maxed and won't notice it.

      It looks really busy. A lot of stuff in my face. Could cause a little information overload and result in the visitor closing down the page.

      Keep it real simple and easy to get around.

    I thought this site was quite good, it just needs a few minor tweaks which have already been mentioned. The only thing I would suggest is to change font to a more screen-readable one - try Georgia or Verdana.

      Its OK. The website is overdesigned with little apparent regard for the user experience. A person would have to know what they were looking for in order to use this site. It is not particularly user-friendly site.

      It looks like a site designed by a committee of people who all negotiated to have their part included in the design without leaving anybody's stuff out. Most of the things that are included on the front page, could probably be better addressed via a menu system instead of individually bordered boxes of content.

      It is not a useful site in that it tries to be everything all on one page instead of focusing on one action or a single choice of 2 or 3 actions.

      It looks like a designer based site instead of a user based site. If you are trying to mke money in a niche, you would probably be better served by finding another design to emulate.

    I still prefer my own custom theme but I think yours looks great. You'll always have people disagreeing about the little things, but if you're trying to sell some products and build a list then I think you've made good choices all around.

    As a diabetic, I've visited this site before. The navigation buttons are too big, as mentioned already. Its a decent choice of colors, tho. But it also suffers from too much on the page. I think I felt that way when I first visited it like 2 years ago.

    you could tell it was wordpress but it looked appealing, clean but yet busy with content. Colour scheme seems to work.

    BTW what theme are you using. I am thinking of applying this to a few of my sites

      Simple is sweet, your tabs looks crowded with links so try reduce or arrange them in a proper way,

      Its like too much information loaded in small space, thats my opinion though.

    It isn't my site though. It does look like a WordPress blog. If it is not, it sure can be done in WordPress. I just liked the layout and thought of using it in a couple of my sites... so just wanted some opinions on the same.
