Facebook vs Linkedin for buidling social media list

Hi,

Where should I add my customer contacts to? Linkedin or Facebook.

We have a furniture business.

I created a facebook fan page, but it's difficult to get people to join. Much easier to get people to "friend" a real person.

Not wanting to mix personal with business, could I create a profile on Facebook with my wife's first name "Christine" and the last name "Anne-Quinn Furniture"

Do you think that is a good idea?

I like Facebook because it's easy to show photos. So, when new furniture photos come in I can post them up there.

Not sure if I can do that with Linkedin?

Any opinions on this?

Thanks, Brian

My advice would be to set up a 'page' on Facebook andon Linkedin.

A facebook page can be added to a personal profile but it will not become viewable just because someone 'likes' your page, so no worries with your privacy. If you wanted to do the whole thing from scratch of course you could - but the important thing is to have a page and not a profile showcasing your business.

You could even get a brand new profile, leave the whole thing blank and set up a page from there if you wish.

On Linkedin you do have a lot of opportunities to reach business owners and people forget they are still consumers too and less we forget all the interior designers on there you can link up with. You can add slideshare to LinkedIn which would get around the pictures issue.

My gut tells me Facebook is not a great medium for your niche (but then I don't know what kind of furniture you sell ) LinkedIn and possibly Twitter (to post links to special offers and pics) may be a better route and drum up more follower potential.
