ARG.com - Help me brainstorm please!

Hi all,

I picked up this domain as an investment awhile ago, and I was thinking of turning the domain into a site about alternate reality games, but I'm not convinced that alternate reality games will ever become popular enough.

I'm looking to build a massive authority site, and I finally have the time and resources to put into it.

Besides Alternate Reality Games, ARG is technically the abbreviation for Argentina. I could make a massive site about everything argentina, but argentina.com would be better for something like that I would think..

On the other hand it's an easy to remember domain, it could be used for anything really.

Your ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Haha, that's one option. The domain could be used for an fun/entertainment site. I'm not sure how well it would do by just using other people's flash games. I'd probably have to pay to have unique games made to be truly successful like miniclip and some of the other big boys.

You started in the wrong place.

You should have researched the market first and chose you domain name last.

    Dump it and start again.

I understand and I agree. But I purchased the domain as an investment, and was planning to resell it some day. But in the meantime I'd like to build a website and increase it's value.

        Hey Bro

Ask yourself why you want to do that.

You could easily end up spending a lot of time creating a site that doesn't deliver.

I have no idea what you can do with such a domain name, anything is possible. You could even sell it to a billion dollar ARG company. But, honestly, I really don't like the type of people who buy domain names just to resell it.

Whenever I brainstorm for a domain name for a new project, sadly I notice that almost all the domains I come up with are taken and parked. I wouldn't feel sad if those domains had a website on them. And for that reason, I will never buy a domain name from a domain name investor no matter how badly I want it.

Being a three letter domain, which is rare, I would list it on Sedo and/or afternic. You can still develop, but it's quite possible someone would pay a good bit of money for a 3-letter domain that they have a use for.

Arg makes me think of a humor type site.

      Yes, my thought exactly.

I was looking at this thread and thought you were joking when you started it with ARG . com.

      Like you were frustrated.

I think you could play off of this. Or as Suzanne mentioned list it as it will have some nice value with just the 3 letters.

    Hey Rush,

First of all, I love your name. I'm a huge Rush fan (2112 ftw).

Secondly, I build gaming communities, and I've done some pretty large ones (~billion adviews/month). If you are looking to seriously build a property, we should talk. I have an extensive history I can share with you and help brainstorm some ideas, not to mention how to actually get there.

Hit me up in a PM I'll send you my contact info.

If I owned ARG - I would do an Augmented Reality Game site. Check this out: Top 10 augmented reality demos that will revolutionize video games « Games Alfresco - it's 3 year old video but its a hot item today.

More here: YouTube - Augmented Reality games

edit: didn't want to bring up hopes too high but develop it into a nice game site and then sell. Don't sell as is.

At Sedo, this person who owns ARgames has had 14 offers already and it all got turned down. http://www.sedo.com/search/details.p...5&et_lid=14274 - now do you see why I say your 3 letter .com has a big payday.

    IGN is a 3-letter high-valued game site.

If you want to sell let me know I can broker for you.

With a 3 letter dot com, it makes almost no difference what you put on it unless you want to keep it. It is already an extremely rare commodity.

You could even put up a site all about pirates, even though it is spelled differently. But I would think people would still get it.

Hmm that's a very rare 3 letter domain nowadays. You could probably sell it to some domainers for a good price but since you desire to develop it perhaps look for what you want it to be.

    What's your passion?

Also don't always think that it has to be representative; you can make it to some mumble jumble social network site or game site. The abbreviations can easily be made up like
A+ Games Rock; you can just BS it so perhaps consider more of what you want it to be, what you are looking for it to be. Since you want to build it into a authority website perhaps forums or community sites?

Because building an authority site base on content would require quite a bit of work and investment in content and SEO.

These are just some ideas and opinions

That domain is worth a lot. I'd just hold it for as long as you can (or a couple years) and flip it. 3 letter .coms will only continue to go up in value.

Honestly just putting a "site for sale contact youremail@whatever.com" will probably make you more than any site you ever put on it. Its already worth a lot.

If a prospective buyer visits arg.com and sees a full-blown website on augmented reality games (or anything else) they may assume the domain is not for sale. Better to have no website there.

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a Warrior named Bob. He was sad. And frustrated. You see, Warrior Bob spent every last nickel on Internet Marketing e-books. But nothing panned out. No traffic. No sales. He was one sad Bob. Then one day Bob found a bottle. He rubbed it and out came a Genie who granted him 3 wishes. For Wish #1 Bob asked for a pet Dragon. Wish Granted. For Wish #2, Bob wanted Warriors' websites seen by 53 million TV viewers, for under $5 per broadcast. The Genie said... (click here)

I disagree. The coupon giant Groupon got an offer from Google for 5B and it just a few years old. A developed website has more potential than just a domain name. The more and better its developed the more valuable it becomes.

A dry land with nothing on it has no value but the tumble weeds that rolls across it. A city that's growing and growing has a much more better value don't you think.

Plus I already made an offer but he won't sell.

How about video games in general? You could build it around the idea of all of these games being too difficult, or focus the site on how to beat the hardest game modes. You could put game guides, rate each difficulty level on how hard it is compared to other games. That sort of thing

Here's why its a very good idea to develop ARG.com -

    -----

    - News Corp.'s IGN Entertainment, a network of videogame and entertainment websites, has agreed to acquire rival UGO Entertainment from Hearst Corp. in a deal that sets the stage for a spin-off, IGN President Roy Bahat said.

Under the terms of the agreement, Hearst will become a shareholder of IGN and take an "active role" in the business, executives for ...

    ------

Now you my friend have a greater potential because of the AR factor and if developed right could be the next rival to IGN.
