Default Page one with 40 MILLION competing sites

list of free press release sites - Google Search

I'm number three for "list of free press release sites" without quotes. Right under Mashable. I just about nearly fell over when I saw that.

I believe this is due to a couple of things. It's on a wordpress blog and I have the plugin that lets you create your own title which is great for SEO. And I linked to that list of free sites from here and on Twitter.

Hot tip of the day: create a list of free valuable resources, put it on your blog or website, Tweet about it and link to the list - and people will link to it, blog about it, stumble it, Digg it, and re-tweet it. It's good for some serious google juice.

And I can't believe I've turned into such a geek I just said Google juice.

in quotes there is no competition really at all. So light social bookmarking can do that all day.

She said WITHOUT quotes.

Congratulations on rank 3, you should be getting decent traffic from that. Do you know the search stats for that keyword phrase?

I was wondering the same thing. It seems like it would be a fairly common search string, however the rank 1 site probably gets 90% of the traffic.

I understand that. But when you quote it is when you see a bit closer how many people are competing for the same phrase.

Since there are few going after it that would explain why she was able to get ranked easily.

Either way it's still good job done Dana!

What I am trying to show clashctyrokr is that light social bookmarking can help virtually anything with lower competition rank well and fast.

This comes in handy when used when directly promoting product specific names. Because a lot of times there is lower amounts of people competing for that keyword.

That's good. There are some reasons why you're ranking high with a PR0 site with only 9 backlinks right now to that particular page.

1. Your content is new while most of the other sites on page one have older content. Google gives a boost to new content for a short while, afterward you'll drop back down unless you have additional links to bolster your position.

2. As you mentioned, you're using good internal SEO on your site, which helps boost your site above other newer content.

3. Your domain name matches the keyword for the post, more juice there.

4. Your site is 100% about press releases, not press releases, blogging and dog food, which helps increase it's importance on the topic to Google.

The bottom line, get more links with the keywords "Press Releases" and the like and instead of being on page 1 for a search that gets roughly 140 searches a month you'll be on page 1 for a search that gets 18,100 searches a month ('free press release') or even 450,000 searches a month ('press release'). Then you'll see an amazing amount of traffic.

The site was created beginning of October and I'm already getting good organic traffic, but most of my traffic is still from Twitter just because I go on there and Tweet links all the time. I got 297 visitors from Twitter yesterday when I tweeted a link to a post on how to get your story picked up by the news media.

I would KILL to rank for the phrases with higher search volume; I certainly hope to get there. What I'd really like is to rank for is something like press release writers and press release writing services because I would assume that if people want a press release writer, they would type in something like that.

'press release writing services' doesn't get that much search traffic, about 500 or so searches a month but the term is highly competitive with several very strong sites like Send2Press and eReleases standing in your way.

'press release writers' also doesn't get that much traffic, around 350 or so searches a month, but it's less competitive.

'how to write a press release' gets a healthy 12,000 searches a month and isn't as competitive. The same is true for 'sample press release', 'writing a press release', and 'how to submit a press release'. These might be good keywords to focus on.

While you're doing great with social traffic from Twitter, you can really build a stable base with search traffic. That's what I recommend since search traffic isn't something that you have to actively maintain in most cases while doing Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, etc. is high maintenance. Of course, in your case where your business model is more public facing, you can combine both and effectively double or triple your traffic with a little time and a little SEO work.

Hey, you're GOOD! You know your stuff. And thank you, I will do some posts and some ezinearticles focused on those keyword phrases.

I do find some other benefits from Tweeting on Twitter - reputation building, branding, customers find me that way - but being on page one of Google for the best keyword phrases is extremely valuable, and yes, doing ALL of these things together is ideal.
