Whats the difference between....

Hey Warriors,

I know that on WordPress there are various plugins you can down download such as PrettyLink, ALL in one SEO pack, Google XML Maps etc to help rank your site and get it circulating. But say you want to set up a site from scratch using say Dreamcatcher or Kompozer, Are these programs really only useful for landing page and squeeze pages?

Your Advice would be well appreciated.

Thanks

Johnny

The plugins you mentioned work only if they are... err, "plugged in" to WordPress.

A WordPress plugin is a code that adds additional feature to a basic WP installation or changes the behaviour of the core WP files.

Outside of WP, e.g. on a site created with DW or another HTML-editor - they are just useless files.

    It's Istvan and sarcasm.

Then you need to formulate your questions in a clearer manner...

Don't let people guess what your real question is.

If you were curious whether using plain HTML sites (created by the editors you mentioned... or even Notepad for that matter) could be as effective as a plugins enhanced WP site - the answer is yes.

Despite the prevalent urban myth saying that the big G loves WordPress... plain HTML sites can do just as well as WP powered blogs/sites.

If this wasn't your real question, next time spend a bit of time on your posts

    Thanks Istvan, advice taken.

It's clear your a helper by the amount of posts you have clocked up. I appreciate your post and will read up on using plain html sites, i was just curious because I'm looking into CPA and thought it might be easier.

    No hard feelings,

    Johnny

As an experience wordpress blog site builder, there are times when the only way I can mix pics, graphics and text together and get them to align center, a quirky reaction in wordpress's antiquated wysiwyg editor, is to go under the html tab, select all the html code and paste into a desktop html editor, manipulating the code and re-pasting it back into the html field in the wp editor. Sometimes I just prefer to create a complex page initially in my desktop editor and paste under the html tab. Html code you use over and over, again, copy n' paste into a text file. These and many, many other little tricks you learn over time that can save you a great deal of frustration to the point of wanting to pull your hair out.

I second Tim, there are times when you really have to craft some html and insert that into your WP site.

It took me a long time to come around to WP. Having programmed website in HTML, javascript and ASP for many year, I was reluctant to give up hand crafting code using an editor.

The power you of WP is that you have so many options to really increas the quality of your site. Just the SEO plugin alone make it worth the trip! They will help you tune your site in minutes, addressing things that might take you hours by hand.

Johnny, much of the functionality you get from plugins can be added to plain HTML sites using a combination of javascript, php, and sometimes perl scripts.

Not quite as "plug and play" as a Wordpress plugin, but you can definitely get the job done. Many of the biggest sites online started as plain HTML.
