Do you get good traffic from Yahoo Answers + how to insert links

22 replies
Hello warriors!

Do you get good traffic from Yahoo.answers?

Although I can insert links, my affiliate links (which are cloaked) are currently showing as:

http://www.createmyownwebpage.net/affiliate link.com

I would like them to show as:

http://www.affiliatelink.com

Thanks for your help

    You can't insert links in your answers till you have reached a high level in Yahoo Answers. You need some 2000 points, I think, to be able to put links. You can add an address to your answer but it won't get hyperlinked so the viewer has to copy that link and paste in the address bar to go to your site. And also, many people over there are aware of affiliate marketing so its best to cloak your links because those people can give negative ratings to your answer resulting in diminished credibility.

    And yeah, it does give traffic but not quality. I see visitors in my stats but no conversions. I can only say your answer has to be very comprehensive and not give your link as a "source" but rather as your own article/page.

    Hi, being honest yes YA answers does give some traffic but not great targeted traffic or buying traffic. I have a L6 account and i use it to get traffic to my ad-sense sites and blogs. I really havent gotten that much joy when linking back to my sites with clickbank products on them. Its trail and error to be honest.
    I wouldnt spend all my time trying to get traffic from YA. An hour every few days would be ok.

        I've made two concerted efforts with Yahoo Answers and gave up both times. I followed a policy of providing detailed, useful responses and only linking to a very relevant post one one of my own websites once in every ten answers, never more, but both times I had my account canceled.

        I believe there are a lot of deeply entrenched people who employ a policy of reporting anyone who seems to be trying to establish a presence in their particular niche. They won't tolerate anyone new.

        Each time I contacted YA and challenged the cancellation, citing other answers very similar to my own, but they refused to reconsider.

        I really don't see it being worth the effort of beginning from scratch a third time. :p

          I totally agree. And the best people for reporting you on YA is the people with the bigger accounts.

    You could buy a .info domain and then redirect it to your affiliate link

    I don't recommend YA. It's a waste of time imo. It's better to find traffic else where other than YA.

      I don't use yahoo answers all that much, but once i helped my brother with it.

      I asked a question, he answered with his link and few hours later he had a sale.

      but that was my first and last time using it

      It does work to some extend but you cannot rely on it.

    Three rules on getting links from Yahoo Answers:

    1. Link cautiously;

    2. Don't link to the same sites all the time;

    3. Don't answer questions on the first two pages of results in any category.

      Thank you for your answer. Do you actually get good traffic from Yahoo answers and good conversions? The majority of the responses to my thread are negative, so I want to be sure that it is worth pursuing.

        I don't, but I know someone who does.

        I get decent traffic on some answers that other people put into Yahoo answers. I got my placement there because someone else liked my stuff.

        My buddy does it as a deliberate campaign. He gets good traffic and conversions, so it is worth doing.

        But if I were to make up a statistic on the fly, I would say that 98% of people who try to market on Yahoo Answers fail.. :p

        All advertising relies of some basic principles:
        • Right message;
        • Right audience;
        • Right time;
        • Right media;
        • In context placement.

        Most people who try to advertise in Yahoo Answers miss at least two of the above.

    yahoo answers is an OK source for quick traffic. If you post enough links up there with relevant traffic you will get hits

    But i recommend stumble upon or even digg it

    I use to outsource this, but that numbskull neanderthol kept spamming and getting banned.

    So beware....be helpful and do not go in there to blatently spam..yahoo sees forums like this and knows people go in there to get targeted traffic and will delete your account the first wiff of spam they see.

    Yahoo Answer work even without click-able link. I used it a lot for my first website and when I stopped backlinking from YA, I was still able to get daily traffic from there. I have just logged on now to get traffic for my new site... Go get it

    I used Yahoo answers a few years back to try to generate traffic to affiliate links. I found it hard and got my account banned fast. Think moderation is the key when it comes to Yahoo answers

    I have done yahoo answer for my traffic generation in the past. My traffic increase but if I stop doing yahoo answer marketing then my trafic drop so I decided not to do yahoo answer anymore.

    I have reached a pretty high level on YA, not that I seriously tried, I just for while really liked answering questions I knew about it. As to traffic, it's a mixed bag, and the conversions, I couldn't say as I never tracked it. I will say, I know others who made a serious effort to use it as a 'free' traffic source and have been disappointed.

    When I tried yahoo answers like others here, I provided detailed and informative answers on the niche subject but unfortunately I was banned all the same. I even only posted my link once every four or five answers apart from the odd time where people were asking for links.

    Anyway, I'm going to stay away from there as I think it would be a shame to build up a reputation and then have them ban me anyway, it would be a waste of time for me.

    I see the attraction of yahoo answers though, that is why I joined myself to test it out. I was getting some traffic through, but not enough to make me want to keep doing it, it wasn't buying traffic either (not for the niche I tried it on anyway). I have the feeling a lot of people look down on anyone posting links there, as there are a lot of people that just spam links with no proper informative answers. So that reflects on ourselves even if we do a well thought out message.

    It's a shame really as I know it has the basis to be a great marketing resource.

    If I can offer any advice to anyone related to this subject, it would be to sign up to forums related to your niche. Post thoughtful, relevant, non-spammy information and links to your articles there, and you will see much better results than yahoo answers.
