Questions On Pingbacks and Directories

Hi All, I have a few newbie questions and i hope there not that stupid.

1. I have a few sites that i add content to on a regular basis and they are now Google page one for most of the keywords. When i ping them after adding content i get pingbacks in my comment area of wordpress. Is it worth approving the pingback comments or should i just delete them with the spam. I have been deleting them up until now but ive just noticed that they are linking back to my articles on other sites.

2. I have recently added some of the sites to online site directories. The directories gave me a script to add to my site. The question is do i have to add the script to my site and if i do where exactly do i place it.

    It's the directory's way of getting a backlink.

    I would put it in a separate page, such as the About page. If they want it in the footer, then maybe it is ok.

    I would not put it anywhere that you want people to see, such as the sidebar.
