New Google Program: Adsense on Parked Domains?

I haven't been around much the last few days, so maybe someone has already posted it - but you can now put Adsense on your unused domains with Google's new 'domain parking' program

Details here: Google AdSense for Domains

Looks interesting - I wonder if it will help get your site indexed faster when you convert it over to a 'real' site?

  • It's already difficult to find some great .com's.. i'm sure with this new ability to create income there will be a steady increase in domain squatters.

I couldn't find any information on how the domain clicks factor into your overall CTR. For me this would matter.

Hmmm... Looks interesting. I have a few domains that I'm not using yet, I'll test it out and see what happens.

      Thanks.

I doubt that it's going to factor in at all, since you won't be providing any content for the site at all - in fact, I think that this is a good indication that Google feels like it needs more sites to show ads on rather than fewer and it probably considers sites that GOOGLE controls the
content as being better than mass made sites all over the place.

Considering that a lot of us have a bunch of undeveloped domains at any given moment - this might be good thing to at least test!

This program has been around for some time, but has been reserved for very large domain holding companies.

You had to have thousands of domains to qualify.

        Maybe it's changed... ?

I'm sure some will be buying domains just to run adsense on.

True - but I have a couple of hundred that aren't doing anything at the moment - as my last year was pretty much 'dumped' when my dad had his stroke - and I think the potential to get a domain ranked with Google might be the more interesting aspect of this

I wonder if anyone here has used the program? And if what Eric mentioned about this being previously reserved for the large domain holding companies is true.....doesn't that kind of send the 'quality content' basis of Adwords /Adsense right out the window?

This really opens the door to a LOT of questions......

I think it's opened up now as it was available in my Adsense account yesterday when I logged in - I am not sure when it was added as I have been on the road for most of the past two weeks and haven't logged in much.

It might still only be available for publishers over a certain level (YTD average is only about 2k per month as I sold a couple of the bigger producing sites) but I am sure that there are a lot of people here that do more than I do - so I would at least suggest checking to seeif it's available through your Adsense account.

I submitted a few sites this am, will see how long it takes to get approved -

I did post this yesterday in the Google Adsense part of the forum.

Like Melody said, it does come in handy for the little guy who has extra domains. It beats letting the registrar company profit over your choice of domains if they do get traffic.

      Hi Melody,

Click through the 'help' link at the bottom and one of the pages is -

      https://www.google.com/adsense/suppo...51&topic=14746

      which says -

During the week following December 11th, we'll be gradually rolling out AdSense for domains to all North American publishers with English-language accounts. You should expect to see it appear in your account by December 18th, 2008.
I expect they'll get around to us eventually too - the only downside is that I make much more from Sedo from domain sales than parking clicks - which I presume you won't get from this. But if you are sitting on one while it gains value, this might help.

        Hi Roger -

I actually was about to list some domains on Sedo to sell - have you had good luck with them?

          Hi Melody,

Good and a little bad luck

I find that you get better prices than selling to domainers through forums (kind of obvious really) because I find the buyers have cherry picked your domain and want it - versus pushing your domains (on a forum) because you want to sell it.

I like the newer 'send it to auction' feature. If someone makes an offer on a domain you haven't priced (just parked without a fixed price) you can choose to a) accept b) ask for more c) accept, and send to auction. It then goes on auction for 7 days with a starting price of the offer you accepted.

I'll mention that the couple of times I used this though, I didn't get further bids. During the last few hours of auction, it shows on the homepage in the auction section. It costs nothing extra to do this.

The parking earnings are negligible in my case (XXX quantity of average quality domains parked - mainly non-promoted/non-backlinked domains)

I also paid for some featured listings of better domains and it wasn't worth it for me - no results.

The bad luck - a couple of minor issues - one I recall is that one domain was almost at renewal when I got an offer. The process took long enough that I had to renew it and thus had to make buyer wait. They pulled out. Even though Sedo said they weren't allowed to and would follow up, they didn't appear to and I couldn't be bothered (no major loss - small bid).

Overall - nothing happens quick. But over time got some decent margins off $8 domains.

          Hope this helps.
