Your Questions About Twitter Marketing...

Hi guys

In a recent post on my blog I wanted to try and get some questions about marketers using Twitter to leverage their marketing efforts... The idea behind this is to try and understand what it is that marketers want to know about using Twitter and generally what you think about using this micro blogging site. I see alot of spammy links and sales tweets on Twitter so I already know alot of people are doing it wrong...

I want to know if an of you are using Twitter for marketing at all? And if so what questions do you have about using it for marketing with?

Thanks in advance

I'm a total newbie. I'm looking to start affiliate marketing with twitter (to start). I have a few questions.

-Does Clickbank (or any other top networks) have any TOS against specific type of tweeting? If so what are they.

-For someone that has a very small budget, what is the best way to get some cash flow coming in so they can expand there marketing efforts? (expanding marketing means creating domains that share space for 1,2, or 3 similar products with affiliate links).

-Best Twitter apps? Automation, friend finders, etc. Free would be best, cheap would be helpful.

-Are there any absolute DO NOT do's for Twitter? Are there ways you can be banned?

Thanks so much for your time and patience. I'm ready to jump in with both feet and would appreciate any follow up you can provide.

Okay obviously spammy links are not going to work, so what content do you put into 140 charaters that will work? I am trying to figure that out

social media sites are there to start conversations, really that is the best way to use them. By getting the word out (viral marketing) and for better communications with your audience.

Twitter is great for getting links indexed, unfortunately it has a low conversion rate for any click-throughs. Atleast that has been my experience.

I have outsourced Twiiter marketing and had thousands of clicks - but no sales. It seems a different world in there and not touched at all by the outside where ads abound and people buy things.

In order for marketing on Twitter to really gain a foothold your followers have to know you and you have to know them. It's not a push button sale per tweet deal. You've really got to narrow and specialize your efforts. It works real well if your interest is already in a niche that sells great, like bodybuilding, biking, wine... then you can make an account where all of your non-botspam followers have the interest too. When you do send them a link they'll trust you and check it out.

It takes time, effort, and love of the niche to really make something like that work, which most people don't put the time in to do.

There are two types of traffic (no, not paid and free), search driven traffic and content driven traffic.

Imagine someone using the Yellow Pages or Google to look for something (search driven).
Someone reading the newspaper sees an ad with a 1-800 number (content driven).

Obviously, there is a higher conversion rate when someone is actively seeking (search driven) a solution for which you have the answer. As opposed to someone sitting back relaxing (content driven) and being sold something.

Your best bet for content driven traffic, like Twitter, is to introduce yourself (brand) and start a relationship. Use Twitter to develop relationships and invite your Twitter followers back to your house (blog) for a "get together".

When you are targeting search driven traffic, you don't really have to worry about spending a lot of time on a relationship if you have the solution to their problem.

People on Twitter and other Social Media sites are not looking for solutions to problems. They are relaxing and hanging out.

When you go to a party and start trying to sell your stuff, you look like an idiot that people avoid. If you just relax and get to know people, sooner or later they ask you what you do.

Google is the Yellow Pages and Twitter is a party.

    Totally disagree with Matt...

We have made millions developing products that people don't realize exist and they NEED.

So obviously they aren't searching for a product they don't know is out there.

That's why you have to *gently* introduce this product at the party.

We have a network of over 250,000 twitter/fb in a different genres from twitter wedding pages to astrology.....with automated strategically spaced messages, you can introduce your product in a non-spammy way.

    It does take finesse though...

Are these messages sending people straight from Twitter to a sales page? Or are you sending them to a pre-sell page to warm them up first?

In other words, do you have the same or better sales conversion rates from Twitter as you do from your pre-sell pages?

We do both...having a mixture is the best bet....if you come busting out following someone, then DM'ing and mentioning with BUY BUY BUY you will be gone very quickly

But a well written warm Bio with a bit.ly tracking link, no DM and some well written tweets spaced out correctly is gold...

then you just multiply that by 10,100,1000 accounts...

We get 10's of thousands of hits daily total from all of our accounts and yes, while the conversion is less than 1%.....do I care that much on a gross of 10K?

So basically, you are agreeing with the rest of us that trying to sell straight from Twitter doesn't really work that well, but you don't care because you have enough numbers to make up for the ineffective conversions.

    Well, technically, it DOES.

But the bottom line is go big or go home. Don't bother with twitter if you are going to have 1 account and just tweet BUY THIS.

    That doesn't work
