    Hi Digispace

Could you elaborate on what makes you think this particular name may have some value, let alone compare it to "sex.com" or "fund.com"?

Sedo.com would be one of the best place to sell your domain.

Can you elaborate on your business plan?

I agree not in the same league with the examples above.
It does get searches during school mid terms holiday. I could simply set up a site providing engaging info with the teenagers...and monetize it

Given that the phrase "mid term ideas" gets no search data, I have no idea what makes you think it is a valuable domain.

Perhaps if it was an aged domain with some PR, then it might be worth a few hundred dollars, but given that it's a new domain then by itself, it's pretty much worth what you paid for it.

I dont mean to disappoint you but the domain you own is not comparable to domains like sex.com.. There is a HUGE difference in terms of value

I would like to know why you consider why that domain has value..

      Haha that cracked me up.

I actually have bought a couple of domains which I am keeping and monetizing until someone wants to buy them from me.

Domaining can be rewarding if you look hard enough.

It isn't what would qualify as "premium domain", but crazy things can happen. I have seen domains with an estimated value of $5K go for $100k+, all it needs if two people who desperately want it for whatever reasons...

        Interesting tidbit about sex.com....

Years ago (over ten years I believe) Party B wanted the domain so very badly however Party A would not sell. So Party B took/stole the domain from Party A. (they hacked around the domain transfer approval process) The thing would up in court. And while it was all being sorted, Party B was making a significant daily revenue.

No offense, but the domain name isn't worth much at all. Sure it is a .com exact match, but I doubt it gets much search traffic. I don't see that traffic being particularly profitable either. For a site to be worth much, it really helps to be in a profitable niche.

Unfortunately, unless someone really wants those domains for their keywords, the 'i' and 'x' prefixes make it pretty undesirable to the majority of the market.

              That's not a premium domain.

One of my businesses is wholesale college textbooks business and I have 3 amazing domains, and one of them I thought would easily be worth a low to mid 6 figure range, and it wasn't..

I learned not be overly optimistic about domain names.

            Hi mbarty,

you can always try Flippa or any other platform to sell your domains,so if you want to try to make some money from those domains, i would begin with Flippa.

    Learn before you earn ....

Don't just jump into murky waters thinking you'll find a nice fish. In domaining, the croc is just a bite away from you becoming its next meal.

But midtermideas.com could be used for ... well, mid term ideas. I'm done with school many years now so I wouldn't have the slightest idea of what mid term is unless I search for it but I've got things to do so ... do your best with it and hopefully someday you'll get to sell it for a cool million.

    maybe not ...

Selling premium domains is so good if you want to create a short one that is easy to remember and with value search. But you could sell a domain for 6 figures or more especially if you attract some companies to bid for.

I don't totally agree with others said that the value of domains are from the volume of search in the month.

let me explain why, the highest valuable internet domains such as google.com, facebook.com, yahoo.com, bing.com there keywords are not valued before registering these domain.

If your domain interest big companies, they pay you much more than people try to buy your domain for just their personal website.

I hope you understand my opinion and good luck for everybody

With many domains, much of their appeal lies in the eyes of the beholder. So if you market to your domain to the right prospects, you'll be surprised at how much you can get for these apparently "worthless" domains!

That's exactly right! A large percentage of the domains I register to sell would be considered by most to be worth no more than registration fee. Yet I sell them for many hundreds, and thousands, by doing the necessary research first to find specific potential buyers.

Many of those high end domains remind me of a little piece of property I sold north of Atlanta. I was a real estate broker and listed and sold that 6.3 acre piece of land three times in 4 years. Each time it sold for more than double the price of the previous sale. I made a lot of money on that little property - because it was in a straight line with north Atlanta development...

Many of those big dollar domains have changed hands several times along the way. Wish I had the foresight to purchase just of them way back when

Domaining is one of three areas that I have managed to make some money. (Thank you Gene Pimentel.) I just have never been able to figure out how to do it consistently. Two months ago I sold a really stupid name for $900. I was ready to let it expire. On the other hand I have a couple (city)attorneys.com for cities of more than 100,000 with more attorneys than fire hydrants that I can't give away. Likewise I have two (city)chiropractic.com for cities of more than 100,000 that I have done emails, postcards and cold calling for without a nibble. Makes no sense at all. My only piece of advice is to do keyword research FIRST and buy later. When I first started I bought first, researched later and wound up with about 30 that I would never touch now. Most of them have blessedly expired.

          Two bits of advice:

#1. Buying names: stick with 1-3 word exact match names with more than 1000 "LOCAL" monthly searches in the google keyword tool. Single word com, net, org, info and tv are best.

#2. Domainers want to find others that want to develop their names into a business that can make money and add value to the generic brand. It's easy to find the owners of generic names through whois look ups. You can land a million dollar domain as a partner, all you have to do is have a good development plan.

          #2 is GOLD! trust me....

True, but it didn't get $5.9 billion based only on the domain name - there was a business and foundation behind it.

If you want to sell on Flippa, a rule of thumb is that the website is considered to be worth around 10 times its monthly revenue. So it may be worth your while to set up the website and then install adsense & then sell it when its making afew hundred dollars a month atleast.

Any thoughts on ilosefats.com? It's hard to find domain brokers who charges low. Anyone care to evaluate the potential?

It is very close to being worth a lot, but falls short due to two additional characters in the domain - if it was losefat.com, it'd have been worth tens of thousands!

Yea I reckon as much.. Thanks for your input.. Initially I thought of creating a brand around it such as for health products or such but I noticed the grammar mistake. It should be fat instead of fats.

True, it'd have been worth more if it was ilosefat.com, but of course it'd still not compare with losefat.com

is estibot.com a reliable site for domain name appraisals? a few unregistered domains were valued around $190-790. And if these were valued as such, where can I sell just these domains?

      STOP !

You are in need of education...Please take the time to look for good info on domain flipping . Look for Gene Pimentel products and do a search in the forum for domain flipping threads and WSO.

Estibot can be way off and sometime surprisingly close. What you need right now is to understand the full process of domain buying and selling and not get excited about whatever valuation tool tells you.

      Best of success.

Thanks for the warning. LOL! I was just getting interested in domain flipping and you got me stopped. Would be an interesting income stream but I can't get distracted from my current project I'm working on right now.

Would love to get into it though once I'm done with my current project.

    Domain name value =
    a) High keyword density for a frequently searched keyword
    b) COMMERCIALITY

Someone searching for "midterm ideas" is looking for info... many of those looking would not be planning to spend money.

Something like "toyota prius" is a good type of thing to target - eg. toyotaprius.com

    201,000 searches per month

Commercial - people looking to buy products related to keyword.

Something like that has potential income, therefore it is actually worth paying for

In all, its be very fun filled and educative thread.

I'm pretty amazed at some of the prices some domains
sell for. The key it seems is marketing and finding the
right buyer. Check out my newspaper on twitter if you
are interested in seeing a list of the top sales prices each
week from the different marketplaces available to sell
domains. You can also Google them directly.

Every domainer has stories to tell.

I had an offer of $500 for a domain name and my fellow domainers said "take it, that name's not worth even that." I ended up selling it for $2,500.

I've had offers of $100 on two-keyword EMD dot coms.

My favorite? "You're not doing anything with it."

My next favorite? "I need it for a school project. I don't have a lot of money." As if that's going to motivate me to sell a premium domain name for $70. When I'm in a particularly rotten mood, I'll ask them to send me a letter from the professor heading this "project," and it must be on school letterhead with a phone number I can call. Strangely, I never hear back from these "students." I especially like it when I see this tactic being taught by "gurus" under the heading of "How to get great domain names CHEAP!!"

Just think of the guys who tell you, about your business idea, that it won't work. Some told me that about my first idea (drummer gifts). They thought I was crazy and that the idea was too niche... but my "drummer gifts" store has made millions.

Now simply apply that to the domain industry. People will tell you that certain domains have no value but it's not always true. There are people making money off of what might otherwise be considered "average" domains. I just sold one for $3500 last month. It had no SEO value at all. It was just something that would sound good as a brand. I bought it for $8.95 and had it for 3 years. So my investment was $26.85. Total profit - $3473.15 ... for doing nothing.

Now all that said, you still have to be smart about domains and learn what you're doing. I'm not the expert as some in here might be but, just like business, common sense can get you very far. Don't expect to make much money on a domain like letmehelpyoulosesomeweight.com. But do expect it on something like loseweightnow.com. I try to buy like that. I own some like furniturediscounts.com and loanguarantee.com that will pull 5 figures but I also have some "average" ones like guitardvds.com or seochest.com that maybe aren't as strong but they will still do OK.

If I wasn't so wrapped up in other business ventures right now, I would spend a lot more time in domain investing. There's a lot of money to be made there if you do it right. Now's the time to buy. Everyone is selling off because they need the money in this recession.

well, sedo.com would be the best place to sell your domain name. But I don't think it's worth as much as fund.com or the like. But good luck to you any how.
