Why use the THANKs button in the war room.

<begin rant>

First - if you are not a member of the war room - WTF warriors? Use the forum search function to read what benis you get from being a member.

Second - Saying thanks is just good manners - those things our parents taught us and which 5 year olds seem to forget for a year - some for a lot longer.

Third - one of the criteria for letting items stick around is how many thanks the thread gets - too little and that means it really wasn't that much of a 'gift' to the war room. Maybe the poster's next post won't be approved.

Fourth - how else will you keep track of all the incredible free stuff you download ? When you open the thread - if you see your thanks there then you know you've already downloaded it - and like most folks left it on your hard drive and forgot about it until you opened the thread again.

Fifth - stop downloading new stuff and pick one thing and take ACTION!

OMG, Jack - I thought I was the only one who did that. That's exactly what I do, too - check to see if my thanks is there so I'll know to search my hard drive instead. LOL.

    # of Thanks is also a good indicator of how useful a member is to the community. It helps new members better orientate themselves in the sea of advice they are getting. It also helps oneself to judge on her/his own usefulness to the community.

Well, it would be... except that one of the fastest ways to get thanks is to tell dirty jokes in the OT forum.

        CALIBAN! You dirty bugger :p

I LOVE the War Room downloads and goodies. It is fantastic having access to so much good stuff. I admit I sometimes forget to click the thanks button, I should start doing that again. Thanks for the reminder

Lol. A good way to keep track of the stuffs that you have already downloaded for sure. Why didn't I think of that? My mind is not great enough!

Oh, and I click "Thanks" by the way.

    Cheers,
    Lester

Jack, where did you get this idea? I've never heard anything like that... as far as I know, each thread gets approved on its own merits.

And I think people put too much emphasis on the Thanks around here... it's a general indicator of a thread's value, or the value of a member's contributions, but just a very general indicator, and just one of many... I don't think people need further encouragement to worry about how many thanks they're getting.

One of my pet peeves is people who ask for thanks at the end of their posts. It's not against the rules, but I think it's tacky.

I always watch my thanks number. Every time I see it go up, I check to see which of my posts got the nod. I find it very satisfying to to know I helped someone or posted something someone appreciated. It reasures me that I add value here, from time to time.

I don't know why anybody would use the thanks button within the War Room. I hardly ever use the thanks button, I've only hit it 12 times over the entire 3 years I've been a member of this forum.

That's because for the first year of that, we didn't have one. The "thanks" button was a brand new thing that showed up around this time two years ago. Those of us who were still reasonably new picked it up quickly, and those of us who weren't largely ignored it.

    Ken,
I based the idea on reading this thread in the war room. If I misunderstood then my bad.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/war-room...h-updated.html

This is also a good point for everyone - don't always take what you read on the net as gospel - we're all human. Don't be afraid to question where folks get their ideas. if they have nothing to hide they'll be able to tell you why. A great way to learn new stuff!

    best,

ps Chris - Benis was suppose to be short version for benefits. So we see where your mind is....and I like it ;-)

I wouldn't let that worry you. I find what the majority are doing, then do the complete opposite of that. LOL!

There's always one. Commission? LOL The WF doesn't run on air you know. He's simply saying that if you're not a member then you're missing out on some really good meat and bones of IM. Oh and it's a rant. On the internet. So don't take it to heart. Ok? ok.
