Is Affiliate Marketing as we used to know it dead?

I'm curious to hear from Warriors who are still making really good money using the old affiliate marketing techniques in the Internet Marketing / Make Money Online niche.
Is it as lucrative as it used to be? or do you feel the competiiton has made it extremely difficult for a newbie to enter? Or do you think the Google developments have made it harder to rank for your chosen keywords? Do you still get as much traffic as you used to, or is that getting harder also?

Or on the otherhand, do you think the market has become easier to crack, now that there is more demand and therefore more traffic, despite there being a lot of competition?

And can anyone recommend any really good IM affilite products, that aren't full of empty promises, and that actually are good value for money and they have proof that they are workable and effective on todays market?

The game is always changing. What worked well yesterday, might not work so well today, that's true, if you are a darkish hatter.

Big G is always changing the rules to filter rubbish from their results, so things like article spinning, for example, is becoming less effective. Hopefully, this will benefit users, but it will also benefit savvy marketers who try to think like a search engine and adjust their approach.

I would competition will just continue to increase for the foreseeable future. More and more people are getting into online marketing. Everyone that is already doing well is continuing to expand. Luckily there is a ton of money to be made. So it is easy enough to carve your own niche, but you have to be selective. I'm sure many niches are much too saturated for a new site to realistically compete.

It's just as easy as ever but relies more on relationships now because there's also so much more crap stuff being pushed and people seem to be more sceptical.

Great point Andy, but how do seperate the wheat from the chaff? The rubbish products from the brilliant products? Any ideas?

Someone already said it - proof.

I don't just mean a doctored Clickbank image.

What I do (I can't speak for anyone else) is create promotions around strategies that work using particular products.

Therefore if I am promoting a link building tool/service (for example) I would make a video showing a new domain and exactly how I used the tool and what results it got. So at the end of the video all I say is "that's what I did and what results I got - here's the link to get the tool for yourself".

It means no BSing people and a simple call to action.

Admitedly I've been doing IM for over a decade and so have built a certain level of trust that people know I'm genuine and don't lie about such things, so that probably helps my results, but I believe anyone can do the same as long as they're open and clear about what can be done and show that they've actually done it rather than just read about it or just selling something they haven't tried and made work themselves.

After you've been in IM for a while, your "BS" meter will usually serve you well in steering you away from the products that are utter crap. Of course, if you're unfamiliar with the product and are still vacillating back and forth about its credibility, the best way to ascertain whether you should promote it is either by requesting a review copy or purchasing the product yourself!

I guess as affiliate marketers we should always adapt to new changes. Also we should try to desist from relying heavily on google.

There are other numerous traffic sources that we could try.

Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites must be exploited.

That way we could protect our earnings and diversify our income

Hm, that raises the question what are 'the old affiiliate marketing techniques', as opposed to the 'new???' affiliate marketing techniques?

The competitions are much higher now than before that's for sure. It's changing and leading more directly to social stuff now than in the past. You just need to find a way to get traffic that work best for your niche and keep improving as the trend and demand changing through time.

LOL yeah that about sums it up...

"like before we could lie through our back teeth and set up all kind of fake news sites but now the naughty F.T.C. have stopped us doing that so we have to actually tell the f*** truth (which kills sales) and build relationships with our lists (which takes time and effort). What an annoyonce!" LOL

i think the days of the false guru are over. People want real, tangible proof you are and can do what you say before thyey buy etc..In ashort the market is maturing. Remember MLM in the 70's? HOT...IM in the 2000's will be remembered the same way I.M.H.O.
