How do most of you choose to pay for your website hosting & domain registration?

Do you pay for it on a month to month basis or do you pay it up for the year in advance?

For website hosting, I have been using Host4Profit and pay a monthly fee. I have been with them for years and am very happy.

As for domain registration, I have been using Godaddy.com and pay a ONE time fee each year.

Use monthly when you first signup in case you aren't happy with them. That way you don't lose a bunch of money if you decide to switch hosts.

Once you have gotten comfortable and are happy with your host, then switch to an annual billing plan as most will offer a discount (i.e. we give a 10% discount for annual plans).

I prefer and use the yearly paying options for hosting and domain reg and renewal.

You know, at monthly paying you can forget the renewal. And... why would you pay hosting for more years? A year is a long period of time, a lot thing can happen under that... for example you just want to change the host...

So, do what is right for you.

      Best,

      Sandor

Ive heard that the Google Machine likes websites with registered 10 year domains. That is to say your site might more dedicated, stable than the next guy.

Monthly fee for web hosting (DowntownHost) as I like having the flexibility to leave any time I need to if my host goes downhill. Yearly for domains (Namecheap) - I usually only buy a year at a time, though. Chances are I'm not going to hold a website for 10 years, so paying 10x more than what I need to for a tiny SEO benefit that I can easily make up for with the content on my site doesn't make sense for me.

I've always paid yearly in advance, just because the prices are typically lower that way (I'm talking about companies like TypePad and HostGator, whom I imagine are still going to be there a year later and whose services I'll still want).

I register/renew my domains year-by-year, except if I get a .uk or some other gTLD/ccTLD that requires biennial registration/renewal, but I pay for my hosting on a monthly basis for three reasons:

    (1) I'm a fiscally short-sighted tight-arse. A few quid "saved" on hosting today is a few quid better used towards beer, cigarettes and Indian takeaway tomorrow.

    (2) Why not?

    (3) Because if the service goes pear-shaped, I can jump ship and won't feel so bad about letting them take off with my cash (and may save me the hassle of trying to squeeze a partial refund out of them). Granted, if you're using an established service (I use HostGator and a couple of other of well-established companies, too), that's unlikely to happen, but you never quite know.

For hosting I use Hostgator and pay annually. I find this service very satisfactory with a stellar support. Regarding domain, I go with godaddy. I hope it helps.

I pay monthly which is kind of stupid since I could save and had my hosting account for many years

If your just getting into the Internet marketing game you may want to pay monthly so you can stop if you decide this is not for you. If you work hard at it ill will be fore you : )

I second Christian's advice: try the host out on a monthly basis, then switch to annual when you're sure it's a good fit. Virtually every host will let you upgrade if you didn't choose the right plan in the first place.

I have been doing it month by month - but im going to be doing it yearly from now on as its all going to be renewed anyway - im not going anywhere from IM plus, with income coming in every month, you dont want the hosting costs to be cutting into your cashflow.

I do one year max on hosting - some hosting I pay monthly, others I have an annual agreement - anything longer and you risk loss if something happens and they either go through a management change, are acquired or go out of business...I've had that happen twice in the past.

For domain registration - max 2-years usually.
