Hi,

I'm new to this forum and am interested in possible getting an IM coach... I have pretty much been going solo for 6 years now and make a decient x,xxx/month profit. So i can't complain much, but I am always hearing about these IM coachs and how good they are to get. And I am always looking to better my position financially.

Here is the question i would like to ask to help me in my decision of getting an IM coach...

Have you ever had a/an IM coach? If so was it worth it and how did you benifit from it? "In short, tell me your IM coach story"

--Thanks

This is probably a good idea. Could give you a new perspective on things (and a much higher income ). One thing worth mentioning: take extra caution with this...

If you're going to pay someone for advice make sure they practice what they preach. It's easy for anyone to tell you, "Do this and you'll make a lot of money." In theory, everything works out great. In practice, it's a different matter.

So, if you're considering signing up with someone, buy their products, study their material, and MAKE sure they use their marketing advice to sell their own products (e.g. if your coach is big on testing - which he/she should be if they're a good marketer/mentor - then make sure they're testing all their systems).

If not... ditch them and move on.

Let me put it to you as succinctly as possible.

      I didn't have a coach when I started.

      I wish I did.

      End of story.

Yes, most people would like a coach but that doesn't make it any more feasible to arrange for an appropriate one.

I haven't had a coach exactly, but I have some great friends that give me a lot of advice and I can assure you that you can gain SO much from other people with different experiences.

Anyone can definitely use a coach no matter how much you already make, so it would absolutely be something great to do.

    Hey,

I found my coach by conducting interviews with experts in the IM field. In that process I got unique products (the recorded interviews) and the conversation let me know if the chemistry was good between us and their knowledge range.

    entrabnetworks,

Coming from a background of coaching / training and consulting, one of the most important tasks that is overlooked by many is to make sure your coaches style and personality are compatible with your own.

There are many great coaches out there that know their business and have lots to offer, but if there is a disconnect with your personality and style that put in obstacles that don't need to be there.

This is an important choice, remember you are the one doing the hiring.

YOU are the one who says who is going to be working helping you on your projects.

A good coach expects to be interviewed for the position, and expects that you will have questions about, content, methods and understands that everything works best when its a good relationship match.

Also when considering a coach, it is best if you have a good sense of what you are wanting to accomplish.

Although the terms coaching , training, and consulting are often uses interchangeably, there are difference.

    Consultants
Consultants are hired to preform tasks and achieve accomplishments, this can include training of how to implement the systems they use to perform tasks.

    Trainers
Trainers provide skill assessment and then give you a course of action steps to transfer their skills and knowledge to you.

    Coaches
Coaches have the knowledge and skills help you learn what you need, and provide a feedback loop to help you develop those skills and knowledge and systems integration that helps you to stay on track so you can achieve your desired outcomes.

Coaches will often suggest trainers and consultants for you to work with to achieve your desired outcomes.

Select a few people to interview and determine if one or more of those interviewed are a match for you.

Take your time to find the right match for you, its the best investment in your time there is.

    Hi,

Seems like Paul Coleman gave me a plug in here... thank you my friend!
(Do I know you or have I met you Paul?)

Listen up for a second for some strong advice (everything so far has been good as well, might I add):

    1) You need to figure out where you are now... where you want to get to... what you want to do to get there... what kind of hours you can put in... what kind of dollars you are prepared to put in... etc etc.

    2) You need to be coachable!

    3) You need to be able to follow your coach, and implement exactly what you're told, and not deviate away from the tasks you've been asked to get to work on.

    4) You have to be able to get on with your coach: attitude, values, morals (and stacks more)

These are the basic things I can think of while I'm just about to go out to dinner.

Here's a line that might shock you:

95% of all the people who get started on my course FAIL!

There you go... you wanted to hear the *REAL TRUTH* didn't you?

I tell people at live events... I don't pull any punches... I don't lie... I tell them *NOT* to invest with me unless they're prepared to work!

Is it because my coaching and method of delivery is bad? FAR FROM IT!

Is it because my students are stupid and dumb? NO WAY IN THE WORLD!

You know the main reason for 95% of people failing in nearly ANY course?

It's because they fail to do anything.... they get all hot and fuzzy, get all pumped up, they tell everyone how they're going to be the next World beater, then they go home and don't do much at all! (if anything sometimes)

Want to hear something really stupid / funny / crazy / absurd?

People have signed up for my offer of 52 weeks of coaching at a live event... paid $5,000+ to become a member of my coaching program... they get home.... I email them.... I phone them on their home phone number... I send them a registered letter in the post... send them a VIDEO email... do the lot... and guess what?

I never hear from them every again... not even asking me for a refund!

(Admittedly, most people go home and at least start to do something)

Most people want the coach to 'do it all' for them. They want me to find their niche, register their domain, grab their hosting, change the name servers, check it's all working, go into cpanel, set up an email address, add an autoresponder, check it's working, click on Fantastico, add Wordpress, change the default Wordpress permalinks and internal ping list... and that's just week one of their "requests" - hehehehe

If you need a coach... want to invest time, money and get an education... as well as set up a professional online business... if you're prepared to travel to Thailand and train with me in a closed door workshop...

    PM me !!

    Hope this helps,

    David Cavanagh

  • I have to say getting an IM coach was one of the best decisions I made. I have been trying to break in to this field over the last two years. During that time I have read countless e-books, subscribed to a number of membership sites, I was overloaded with information. The two most valuable tools that helped me improve my IM skills was looking at this forum and an IM coach. I cannot tell you how valuable it is to have an IM coach, it makes a big difference to have someone walk you through a variety of IM techiques and help you develop an IM strategy. I worked with Daniel Molano on this forum, who has some great specialist knowledge on article marketing. Working with him has saved me a great deal of time and money.

@ David Cavanagh - from my experience (in mid-career/life coaching, different fields) a competent coach will bring 2 powerful things to a client who is coachable in the first place (a whole other story):

1- Awareness of what the client is really capable of (and we are all more capable than we can ever realize on our own.)

2- Accountability - that is, the coach will hold the client accountable for what they said they were going to do, and by when. Coaching methods and tools play a part here but the primary drivers are the coach's personality and the trust he/she has with the client - and vice versa.

In practice, some people are simply NOT prepared to do the work, no matter how clear the path is made by working with a coach. In fact, I doubt if even a taskmaster would stir them to action - perhaps limiting beliefs hold back on any amount of external pushing and prodding (which is not what coaching is about anyway.)

And in coaching parlance that makes a client 'not coachable' on that particular issue, at that time, and with that coach. There is no blame attached by the coach for the apparent 'failure' - but obviously when money changes hands there may be some disappointment in poor results. (A good coach will have a guarantee and also sense when to let clients go...)

I'd also say that IM business coaching for newbies is probably more aptly termed "mentoring" in that the clients are looking to the 'master' for answers, tools, techniques as to how they can emulate/clone what he/she has achieved. Kinda like the old master/apprentice system when learning a trade. Coaching in the purest sense doesn't usually supply answers, but it aims to help bring out the very best in the client.

I suspect that to many IM 'coaching' clients that distinction may be seen as splitting hairs - if their intention is to make pots of money as an IMer then whether a coach/mentor/consultant provides the goods is probably seen as irrelevant.
      I understand that PoV.

However, I'm also guessing that the 5% of David's clients who succeed are probably very, very coachable and self-starters to boot.

    Jeff,

What you said makes a lot of sense my friend.

I come from a background of hypnosis and massage... people I taught in these fields were pretty much all graduates and at a high level... most of them passed with flying colours.

When it comes to IM students... most of them want everything handed to them on a platter... sorry... no one can give them a pot of gold if they're not prepared to reach out and grab it with two hands

The only truth is the end result!

    David Cavanagh

PS... And I'm saying this (IM related) to having nearly 900 students in 7 (or maybe 8) countries... not many "coaches" or "mentors" online can come close to what I've done in the 'coaching' and 'mentoring' area for newbies who are getting started on the Internet!

PPS... These figures aren't meant to brag or boast... just said to show my words are coming from a space of authority, and not from only ever coaching a few students who all speak brilliant english.

I know a thing or two about coaching.

      Tried 3 times. Very disappointed.

      A few guidelines:

      - never ever sign up for coaching when someone calls you. Even when they say they're from some big name guru. I did 3 times and failed miserably.

      - Never ever let the coach determine the strategy if you don't like it. I signed up once and then found out that they advertise and teach PPC. I have never done ppc but to learn I had to watch videos. Then found out on a free teleseminar that the same coach gives away his ads, keywords... when you sign up for his hosting company... a $100 investment... guess what I paid.

      - find your coach yourself. Contact coaches first. Almost every big name is offering coaching these days. Talk to that person. Work with him/her only, and not with an assistant.

      - first know the basics like how to set up a website, how to set up an autoresponder, inserting paypal buttons, ftp... Believe me only then you will get the coaching you want because you're not stuck with the essential things.

      - I have a coach now, found him myself, he's working with me on the strategy I laid out. I have a good feeling about it. PM me if you want to know more.

      Good luck,

      Kurt

I started off without having any coach but I followed and do my best to learn from those who I wished were my coaches.

Now I have a few mentors who are stretching me in different aspect of my life and my business...

So get a coach if you want to progress faster....

PLUS having a coach does not guarantee success....only your mindset does...

Thought I might chime in here real quick.

For me, coaching has been hands-down the best thing I've ever done.

It gave me focus, determination, and a step-by-step game plan for achieving my goals. Sometimes all you really need is a proven success formula and a kick-in-the-butt

Plus, my coaching paid for itself within the first month.

    (The key is taking action!)

But here are some things you should look for when choosing a coach/mentor...

    1. Look for someone that's only taking on about 5 students. This will give you a lot more one-on-one time with your coach. If they have 10-20 students, they're going to have a lot less time to give you personalized attention.

    2. Look for someone that you think you'll fit well with. This is really just kind of personal preference, but important nonetheless.

    3. Take voracious action. There are lots of ways to make money online, but the key is choosing one and taking massive action. One of the things I like most about having a coach is that you're giving a step-by-step blueprint to follow and the accountability to keep you focused.

My experience with coaching has made me a huge fan and I will definitely do it again to reach new goals.

Of course, you can make it going solo, but you're going to get there 10x faster if you have someone leading the way.

Definitely! A coach could mean the difference of 4 figures/month and 5 figures/month for you.

It doesn't matter what level we are at, we can always find a coach very helpful.

neil, I'd say not for you - but for those who are just starting out it can be a big help. If you're already making a lot of cash, why do you need a coach? If you want to get to the next level, then maybe....

    Lisa,

Your comment is respected, although it's definitely not correct for most people wanting to be successful online. Far from correct!

I don't earn 4 or 5 figures online... I earn 7 figures online per year.

And you know the real truth is Lisa?

I've got several coaches and mentors I turn to for many different reasons, and there is *NO WAY* I'd be without them.

They've made me a LOT of money by having them there to consult with whenever I need them! I wouldn't dream of not having them in my corner.

Why does Tiger Woods have a coach? Why does Andre Agassi have a coach?

Whether people are newbies just starting off, intermediates who have played around online but never made any substantial inroads, or maybe they're people at a much higher level who need some specific guidance, support, assistance and quality advice, I feel that *EVERYONE* needs a coach and mentor.

Ask my good friend Mike Filsaime what he thinks about having a coach!

Hope this adds some light onto a subject that you seem a little "clouded",

    David Cavanagh

PS... Lackshay mentioned Michael Cheney in this thread... Michael is a good friend of mine, an exceptionally talented young man, a great money earner online, and even Michael has coaches and mentors he turns to. We often talk (when we get time that is) about internet stuff... we all teach each other!

Having a coach is the best thing I've ever done in IM. I think I learn best by taking direction from others, I think it stems from my many years of education.

You can find good coaches in every price range. I've found great mentors for free and some that cost $1,000 a month. If you can do it... I'd say... go for it. Don't hesitate.

I have recently stopped my coaching with this warrior member...in short, he pretended to be this expert and i did my research, he didn't even have much websites...

I paid $1500 a month for this coaching too...didn't see much improvements...

And worst of all, this warrior did not refund me a full refund...it was the worst coaching experience ever...

And the worst part is, 5 other people are supposedly doing this monthly coaching right now as we speak...

he claimed to have all these 20 different products...only to find NO CB products by him...

plus when i asked him of his websites, he would NOT tell me saying he did not want to reveal his golden niches....BS...he didn't have any money making impressive websites...

anyays, lesson to learn is INTERVIEW your coach thoroughly before you hire him...ask them for their websites...

if they are not willing to show any of their websites, it is fishy just like past coach...he did not reveal to me any of his websites when i finally asked him (when i started getting suspicous of his claims)...

...also i also did my research to find out that his youtube, myspace, ezinearticles were NOT impressive whatsoever...plus compared to 20 CB products he claimed to have, he had 0...

so dont just believe people just because they are in the warrior forum...do your due diligence...and research them on google...ask them for their websites...ask them for proof of income...then decide...

also...try out a coach for 1 month...for multiple coaches and based on that, decide a coach...or maybe 1 session...

don't just choose 1 coach and go with it...instead see the variety & after that, pick one...
