How Much Would You Charge?

I have someone inquiring about placing 2 sentences of text on one of my sites with a link to their site. She would like to know how much I would charge if she paid for a year up front. Typical banner ads on similar sites are around $50 per month. But I'm not sure how to charge for this. Can anyone give me any pointers - or should I admit to her I have not encountered this, yet, so make an offer? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

What kind of traffic does your site get and what it's PR? I'd say anywhere from $20-100 a month.

If it's an SEO/link company, ask for $40/mo and take $25-30/mo if they balk. If it's an individual, you might have to go lower if you still want to do it.

You should base your price on the amount of traffic your site gets as well as the PR. PR 3 links can go for $50/month, but PR 0 probably will not. Also, remember that this gives your visitors another exit instead of purchasing a product or clinking an ad to generate income for you. Price accordingly so you can feel okay with potentially losing customers to the link you are placing for the advertiser.

      Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the responses! Some more info; the site they want to link is relevant to my site's content. My site they are wanting to put a link on is a PR2, 18k unique visitors per month and 43k page views. She wants to write 2 or 3 sentences to fit in with content on a relevant page (of her choice, I assume), with my approval of her content. Also, she wants to pay for 1 year in advance.

Thank you, again, for all the help!

Look at the CPC of the particular niche on google keyword tool and the number of traffic your site gets. You can roughly calculte it from there.

You will have to set your price based on your traffic, the higher your traffic the higher price you can charge. You don't want to lock a price in and get a burst of traffic and they still pay a small amount. Try basing your pricing incrementally dependent on your traffic results.

  • It depends on what you can negotiate, why don't you ask how much will they pay?
