Looking to sell a site, what should I do?

I built this site a year ago and haven't done anything since (custom WP theme also). Because it's just sitting there gathering dust, I want to sell it. The site is HTML:CSS Junkie It's like a resource for web designers. The question is, should I sell as is on Flippa? If so, how much should I let it go for?

With this type of site its quite easy to get banklinks for. If I were you I would remove any adverts etc from your site and concentrate on getting backlinks from the multitude of high PR web design blogs, via commenting on their articles/tutorials. You will soon get a higher page rank, and will get a better price for your site. Web development tutorials, from beginner to advanced | Nettuts+ is a good place to get backlinks from if you have a legit web design blog...

My general philosophy is that if a site will bring you mid $xxx or above flippa is the absolute best spot.

If its a newish, underdeveloped, or unmonetized site that will sell for $xx-low$xxx I would just sell it at DP.

Has it gotten any traffic while it's been collecting dust? If so, then you may get more for it than if no one has been visiting it since you put it up. You may want to spend a couple months driving traffic and getting backlinks, as you could potentially get a lot more for it with a small effort on your part.

I would say add value, create a product, and then do a WSO for that product, then document your results, I see you have it on wordpress, I have a few wordpress plugins that would improve your ranking, but to get some good hard cash you need a product.

Even if it is just a configuration tool for some of your better files, pm me if you want I can put you on a good path to selling for a profit.

It's impossible to give you an estimate without knowing how much traffic it gets, how much revenue you're generating, etc.

Flippa has a $19 listing fee (I think - check there to fully understand). Plus a success fee as a percentage (with a $5 minimum). If your site isn't likely to sell for $30 or so, I wouldn't bother.

Your site was registered in June 2010 and will be up for renewal in June 2011. So the domain alone is not worth particularly much - it's not a great name (not a bad one, just not something where the name alone would be a valuable asset), it's a new domain, and it's nearly expired.

Unless you can demonstrate that you're receiving significant traffic and/or advertising revenue, it might be best to just let it go. If you think you can make more of it in the future, pay another $7.50 or whatever for a year and try to increase its value.

Flippa has a high sale rate, 62% which is great. Remember though, this means 38% don't sell. You are paying $19 either way. May want to consider your options.
