Article marketing question...

I have three sites that the main keywords are stuck on pages 3-5 of Google. I thought about trying to submit a high quality article to several Article directories. I have never done this before so I have a question:

The article that I submit to the directories, do I also put that same article on my site? I have one wordpress and two static html sites.

If the answer is that I do put the article on my site, do I get it indexed before submitting to the directories?

    Pulish it on your site first and wait for it to get indexed. After that you can send it to article directories

        Thanks for all the information. I am looking into an article directory submission software to make things easier and less time consuming. I hope this route will move me up in the SERP's

          Understood. I'm afraid it may not, though, Mr. A. Or at least, not enough really to make it worth doing. A strategic re-think will help you here, I think. Article directory backlinks are, in link-juice terms, very close to being "the lowest of the low". You'll need some tens of thousands of them, typically, to confer the link-juice equivalent to one backlink from a decent, relevant authority-site. Honestly.

    This thread will help you enormously. In it, a whole succession of professional, successful, experienced article marketers explain all their (shared) reasons for publishing their articles on their own sites first, before submitting them anywhere else.

    publish your site first or use a pin article when you submit to aritcle directory

      The most important has already been said. Publish it then wait for Google to index it. After which, you won't have to worry so much about your articles being labeled as duplicate content because Google would quickly recognize that it's yours now.

        This really isn't the reason, Alex.

        In whatever order you did it, you wouldn't have to be worried about Google labelling your articles "duplicate content" because they wouldn't be duplicate content. They're "syndicated content". The difference between the two is explained by several people in this thread.

        It's confusing, but in this context the words "duplicate" and "duplicated" don't mean exactly the same thing, and unfortunately the difference between them is a very significant one.

        Anne Pottinger's very useful, recent article, here further clarifies the question addressed in the original post.

    You could also bundle up some of those high quality articles (you are going to produce more than one, right?) into a PDF and submit it to document sharing sites with a link back to your own for more good link juice...
