I currently have a virtual dedicated server at Godaddy, plus shared hosting accounts at Godaddy, 1and1, and Namecheap. I'm not happy with Godaddy - for a lot of reasons. I've also had bad experiences with 1and1 - mostly poor service and extended downtime. I'm looking to consolidate and get a dedicated server somewhere, and would like to ask for recommendations. Namecheap recently started offering VPS - and they are *extremely* fast, but I wonder if that's because they don't yet have too much volume on their pipes. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark |

I ditto PowerVPS.com - used to be hosting with them long ago. Also, if you want to find a great deal and some reviews, I suggest the webhostingtalk.com forum. Tomas |

I have a dedicated server at hostgator right now. I haven't had any problems with it and the support team is great. I was quite surprised when one of my support tickets got answered in less than an hour once.

I've been with ThePlanet.com for almost 5 years and I can't remember a single instance of downtime (in fact, I switched to them after having a host that had 99% downtime - not uptime!). Their customer support has been solid as well. They get my vote.

We have a rack of servers at ThePlanet and are pleased with them. Also Softlayer.net is another great company. |

Try researching and go for the service provider that suites your requirments. This is a bit difficult but generally fruitful |

Mark, I was in the same boat as you at the beginning of this year. It took me a lot of time scouring the webhostingtalk.com forum to finally decided on wiredtree.com. I have been a customer with them for almost an entire year now. Their customer service is second to none. There were numerous times, I sent in a support ticket in the middle of the night and they responded within minutes. Most of the time they just fix the problem for me and emailed me that it's done. Ultimately, you'll have to do your own research to come up with your own decision. I recommend going to the webhostingtalk.com forum. They have a lot of useful threads discussing webhosting companies. You'll also find a lot of positive remarks on wiredtree.com. Hope this helps. Chris |

Hi Chris, Yup, before posting here, I'd been spending a lot of time at webhostingtalk the last few days, and had narrowed it down to Futurehost, Knownhost, and Wiredtree. All three also have some pretty aggressive end-of-year deals. I appreciate your reply and may in fact go with Wiredtree. If I do, and you want to PM me your name, I'll let them know it was on your recommendation. Mark |
